  • WWI ends

    World War One ended after four years of battle. It was an Allied victory with a death tole of around 8.5 million soldiers.
  • Italian dictatorship

    Benito Mussolini was the dictator of Italy from 1924-1945. He was a political leader before he came to power
  • Japanese Expansion

    Japan began expanding in 1931, starting with Manchuria and not stopping until Japans surrender at the end of WWII.
  • Great Depression

    The great depression began in the US on "Black Tuesday". This is when the stock market crashed and everyone rushed to banks to draw out all of their money. People lost their jobs and homes, many moved to Hooverville's where living conditions were terrible
  • Nuremberg Laws

    These laws were created by Hitler for Germany. They were meant to take away Jew's social "rights". They made everyday life much harder for Jewish people
  • Kristallnacht

    This is an event also known as the Night of Broken Glass. It was an act of violence towards Jews carried out by civilians and soldiers.
  • German expansion

    When Hitler came to power he always wanted more and went to the extremes for it. He invaded many areas claiming it was Germany's right to do so. This is called Lebensraum.
  • Munich Agreement

    Britain and France signed this agreement with Adolf Hitler hoping to avert war. This is also known as appeasement and while it did work for a bit, it wasn't long and soon Germany began invading again. They agreed to allow German troops into Czechoslovakia but didn't have the Czechs approval.
  • Nonaggression pact

    Germany and the USSR signed a nonaggression pact before WWII began. They agreed to take no military action on each other for ten years
  • Poland Invasion

    Germany invaded Poland on September 1, 1939. This caused WWII to begin. France and Great Britain declared war on Germany in response to this.

    After the allies declared war on Germany, Germany invaded France, the battle of France was fought because of this invasion
  • Battle of Britain

    Britain defended the UK against large attacks from the German Air force. Germany fought with blitzkrieg.

    This invasion is also known as Operation Barbosa. This invasion was led by Germany and some of the axis powers, they wanted to invade the soviet union to move Germans in instead

    This was a surprise military attack by Japan on a US navy base in Hawaii. It occurred when least expected, on a Sunday morning. It was the main reason the US entered WWII

    The US entered WWII days after Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. They Declared war on December 11, 1941

    This is the second most significant battle in WWII. This was won by the Soviets and caused a failure of Blitzkrieg fighting from the Germans

    This was the Genocide of Jews throughout Europe . Nazi Germany killed six million Jews which was about 2/3 of Europe's Jewish Population.
  • Battle of Midway

    The Japanese planned to ambush the Americans on Midway to lure them into utter destruction. The US decoded their plan and ended up ambushing and destroying many Japanese aircrafts instead.

    This is often called the turning point of the war. This was the first big German surrender, this turned the German offensive to defensive.

    Mao Zedong was the dictator in China. He was the Chairman of the communist party in china

    This is also known as D-Day. this was a very important battle where here was a very fast liberation of western Europe. This led to the eventual retreat of German forces out of France.
  • Iwo Jima

    American forces invaded the island of Iwo Jima. The marines here battled long and hard for this much needed peace of land that was to be used for airstrips for American planes.
  • Potsdam Declaration

    This declaration called for the complete surrender of Japan or they would face utter destruction from the Atomic Bombs the US created.
  • German Surrender

    Germany surrendered in 1945 after about six years of battle.
  • Hiroshima

    Hiroshima was bombed during WWII after Japan refused to surrender. The US dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese city for their refusal.
  • Nagasaki

    This was the second bombing of a Japanese city after Japan's refusal to surrender.
  • Japanese Surrender

    Japan surrendered after the US dropped two atomic bombs on its cities. This finally brought an end to WWII.
