    Germany invades Poland
    The Invasion of Poland was an invasion of Poland by Germany, the Soviet Union, and a small Slovak contingent that marked the start of World War II in Europe. The invasion began on 1 September 1939, one week after the signing of the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact, and ended on 6 October 1939 with Germany and the Soviet Union, and a small Slovak contingent that marked the start of World War II in Europe.

    This was the event where hitler killed approximately 6 million jews. He would send all of them to concentration camps and slaughter them one by one. He was trying to achieve a total oblideration of the jews. He also killed handicapped people, gays, and blacks. He wanted to create one super race.

    The German Luftwaffe started a massive bombing campaign against the Royal Airforce. It was preparation for Operation Sealion -- the invasion of England. Just when the Luftwaffe had the Bri on the ropes and about to collapse, Hitler switched the focus of his bombers to civilian population centers. He didn't understand the effect his air force was having, or he just showed his complete lack of strategic thinking ability. Either way, the RAF got the leg room it needed and was able to fight back.

    The Japanese high military command attacked the military base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, killing thousands, destroying hundreds of vessels, and propelling the United States into World War II. The U.S. now believed that there was a serious problem going on in the world that they needed to stop Japan now.

    The Battle of Midway was fought in the Pacific in June 1942. It was a battle between the US and Japanese navies. It was a turning point in the Pacific war because US planes destroyed three Japanese aircraft carriers. From that point on, the US had the upper hand in the Pacific. These battle also made americans believe that they would be able to maybe push back the Japanese and maybe even be able to defeat them.

    Battle of Stalingrad
    The Battle of Stalingrad was a major battle of World War II in which Nazi Germany and it's allies fought the Soviet Union for control of the city of Stalingrad in southwestern Russia. The battle took place between 23 August 1942 and 2 February 1943. It was among the largest on the Eastern Front and was marked by its brutality and disregard for military and civilian casualties. It was amongst the bloodiest battles in the history of warfare with the higher estimates of combined casualties.

    The invasion of Normandy (D-day)
    D-Day, the Allied invasion of Northern Europe on June 6th, 1944, opened up a second front that forced Hitler to send forces west, which took pressure off the Russians. The greatest seaborne invasion in history was aimed at 80 kilometres of mostly flat, sandy beach along the Normandy coast. British, Canadian, and American soldiers along with smaller numbers of French and Poles, succeeded in establishing a beachhead. The Germans had machine guns that would make them able to mow down many americans

    In 1945 the U.S. attacked the japanese island of Iwo Jima. America tried to capture the island from japan because of its two airfields. The japanese were heavily fortified but the americans had extensive naval and ground support and won the battle. The most significant thing was the flag raising on mount surabachi. This also made the moral of the US so much greater because for once they were actually winning so they wanted to try harder and harder to win.

    The Battle of Okinawa was fought on the Ryukyu Islands of Okinawa and was the largest amphibious assault in the Pacific War of World War II. The 82-day-long battle lasted from early April until mid-June 1945. After a long campaign of island hopping, the Allies were approaching Japan, and planned to use Okinawa, away from mainland Japan, as a base for air operations on the planned invasion of Japanese mainland. The invasion was supported by naval, amphibious, and tactical air forces.

    In the month of August, 1945, two atomic bombs were dropped on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.Together these bombs caused over two-hundred thousand casualties. The difficult decision to employ the use of the atomic bomb was contemplated heavily by top government officials for an extended period of time. Finally the conclusion was made to detonate the bomb in order to bring a quick end to World War II and reduce the number of American casualties
