    Battle at Dunkirk

    This is the location of the beaches that the Allies retreated to after they were outgunned by the Germans. Britain sent a fleet of about 850 ships across the English Channel to the French Port. It was a German Victory.

    Battle of Britain

    Began with Hitler's plan for the invasion of Great Britain. Germany's Air Force (the Luftwaffe) began bombing Great Britain during the summer of 1940. The British used technologies the Germans didn't like radars and Enigma, a German Coding Machine. This was the first victory for the British and it's resistance and was a signal that Hitler could be stopped.

    Battle at Leningrad

    German forces put the city of Leningrad (in the Soviet Union) under siege. By November, the city was cut off from the rest of the Soviet Union. Hitler bombed food warehouses, forcing the desperate people of Leningrad to feed on dogs, cats, cattle, horse feed, crows and rats in an attempt for Russian surrender. Nearly 1 Million people died that winter in Stalingrad but Soviet troops refused to surrender.

    Battle of Stalingrad

    German forces were defeated against Stalin's troops here in their attempt to capture the city of Stalingrad in the Soviet Union. The German troops were unprepared for the Russian Winter, this led to their 90k men surrender on Feb. 2nd. More than 1million Soviet Soldiers died and 99% of the city was destroyed.

    Battle at El Alamein

    El Alamein was an Egyptian Village where the British attacked German Gen. Erwin Rommel's Afrika Korps, and forced them to retreat. This was Britain's first victory.
  • Invasion of Sicily (Operation Husky)

    Allied forces landed in Sicily on Jul. 10th 1943 and captured it from German and Italian troops. This conquest toppled Italian dictator Mussolini from power.
  • D-Day (Normandy)

    Dwight D. Eisenhower's plan of invading Normandy, France. The Allies set up a "dummy army" to make it appear that they were planning to attack the French seaport of Calais. British, American and French troops fought against the Axis-Powers on a 60-mile stretch. More than 2,700 men died. Allied victory.

    Battle of the Bulge

    Germans broke through American defense lines along a 75-mile front in Ardennes, France. The Allies pushed the Germans back although this attack was unsuspected. Because no reinforcements were available, the Germans were forced to retreat.
  • The War Ends in Europe

    After German Dictator Adolf Hitler and His wife Eva Braun commited suicide on April 30th 1945, the Third Reich unconditionally surrendered from the German military on May 7th. The surrender was officially signed in Berlin on May 9th 1945.
