    Germany signed a peace treaty with Russia. The Germans got new land, causing them to shift their soldiers over to the western front. That caused problems for France, Britain, and the U.S.

    Congress gives permission for a declaration of war against Germany. The U.S. enters World War 1 on the side of France and Britain.

    Congress passed the Selective Service Act, starting the draft. It destroyed democracy in the U.S., president Wilson decides to sign the bill into law.

    Henry McNutt was writing to Myrtle about how their letters are falling behind and aren't matching up with the correct dates. McNutt has seen some crazy things already. He wouldn't be surprised if he was in a "bug house."

    Henry McNutt told Myrtle about how the government sends half of their salary to their family members. But, he said that he can handle his own money. He sent Myrtle a ring, so she can always remember him. McNutt is having fun with a man he met, which is good so he isn't stress.

    Henry McNutt was laying in the harbor in Halifax writing to Myrtle. He said that they leave in a convoy for France on March 13th. They were at sea for four days and they barely missed breakers. He thought he was going to freeze, because in Greenland it was forty below zero outside.

McNutt said that if he got out of the war, he was going to be worth something. Also, that he will be more of a man when he's back home.

    Henry is finally happy because he heard from Myrtle. But, he mentioned that he might end up staying in the navy. Only because he doesn't want all of his work to be wasted. He heard that the U.S. was starting to use larger ships for transporting things and it would be easier. He had to stop writing because his head hurt too much, because he felt like he was getting sick.

    The Death of Henry Trollinger McNutt
    Henry Trollinger McNutt died on September 29, 1918 because of bronco-pneumonia. The last letter he sent to Myrtle was on September 21st. He survived the war, but fell terribly ill once he got back to the U.S.

    Kaiser Wilhelm fleas, leaving Germany helpless. After he left, it ended Germany's hope to win the war
