  • Kristallnacht

    Kristallnacht
    Kristallnacht (Night of Broken Glass) was the night where unplanned violence broke out against Jewish people. Over 7000 Jewish businesses were trashed and looted, dozens of Jewish people were killed. Jewish cemeteries, schools, hospitals and homes were looted. This happened because the Germans were angered over the assignation of the German official. This effects numerous Jewish people ruining their lives leaving them being sent to camps and 30,000 arrested.
  • German Blitzkrieg

    German Blitzkrieg
    Blitzkrieg means "lightening war" and was a new military tactic which the Germans relied on to overrun Europe. With this tactic it was concentrated on offensive weapons (tanks, planes, artillery) and speed and surprise. Germany successfully used this tactic on Poland, Denmark, Norway, Belgium, The Netherlands and several other countries. They used this because it was very effective. This impacted them in a very positive way because it helped win battles.
  • Battle of the Atlantic

    Battle of the Atlantic
    Was Canadas longest military engagement. The Battle of the Atlantic was the battle between the Allied and German forces for control of the Atlantic Ocean. The Allies needed supplies going between North America and and Europe but the German U-Boats were scattered in the Atlantic Ocean sinking all of the Allies supplies. This effected the Allies because they were disadvantaged without the supplies they needed during battle.
  • The SS St. Louis

    The SS St. Louis
    The SS St. Louis was a ship which was headed toward Havana from Hamburg with 937 Jewish refugees fleeing Germany due to the horrible conditions after the Kristallnacht. Cuban government denied entry. They headed back to Europe and 200 people were allowed to land in Belgium. The rest of the passengers were under the Nazi's rule and were sent to concentration camps.
  • Fall of France

    Fall of France
    The German invasion on France which consisted of two operations, Code Yellow or Fall Gelb and Code Red or Fall Rot. This happened because Hitler was eager to follow up his victory over Poland.
    The effect it had on the war was that France and Germany signed an armistice and they agreed to split the country of France where Germany got control of the north, west and part of the southeast and Zone Libra or unoccupied zone.
  • Evacuation of Dunkirk

    Evacuation of Dunkirk
    The allies were stuck on the beach of Dunkirk (French Port) with no resources and were surrounded by the Germans. Adolf Hitler ordered his generals to halt for three days which allowed the allies to escape through the English Channel to Britain and saved 300000+ of them from being bombed. This was a very good advantage for the allies as a tremendous amount of soldiers survived. It effected the war because the allies didn't have that many casualties and they could still fight,
  • Battle of Britain

    Battle of Britain
    This battle was the largest sustained campaign and was a very enormous turning point in the war. It was fought in the war between German and British air forces. The German airforce wanted to invade so they bombed Britain, this was known as 'The Blitz.' The German airforces mainly focused on the English Channel and a couple more places of defence. The Royal Air Force saved England from invasion. Later Hitler shut down the battle and stopped attacking.
  • Operation Barbarossa

    Operation Barbarossa
    Germany and Soviet Union signed a non-agression pact but Nazi Germany invaded the Soviet Union and broke it. This happened because Adolf Hitler wanted to make Germany the dominant nation of Europe. Hitler also had his eye on their resources.
    The impact that it made on the war was that the Soviet Union defeated the Germans. Germanys attempt to take over the Soviet Union failed mainly due to attacking during the winter.
  • Japanese Canadians internment

    Japanese Canadians internment
    4 years post war, Canadians of Japanese heritage were taken from their homes and jobs and sent to internment camps across Canada because the Canadian government thought they were more loyal to Japan. It effected all Japanese citizens, they had no homes or jobs everything was taken away from them. They were left with nothing.
  • Attack on Pearl Harbor

    Attack on Pearl Harbor
    183 aircraft of the Imperial Japanese Navy attacked the United States Naval base at the Pearl Harbor on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. The intention was to destroy and damage as much of the US pacific fleet preventing it from interfering with Japanese conquest of entering the Dutch East Indies and Malaya to conquer territory to gain resources such as oil and rubber. The day after attack President Franklin Roosevelt declared war on Japan; entering the US into WW2
  • The Conscription Crisis (Canada)

    The Conscription Crisis (Canada)
    Was a political and military crisis where Canadians had to fight in the war. French speaking Canadians were angry about the conscription and were against it so it was promised there would be none over seas. After the deaths on D-Day the conscription was reenforced for men overseas.
  • D-Day

    D-Day
    The allied forces of Britain, America, Canada and France attacked Germany on the coast of Normandy, France to end WW2 and the Nazi domination of Europe. The effect it had was that it was the beginning of the end. D-Day forced the Germans to fight a two front war. Germany could not handle war on both sides. June 26th Germans retreated because allies captured the French port of Cherboury.
  • Liberation of the Netherlands

    Liberation of the Netherlands
    Canadian forces had a very deadly and risky task to liberate the Netherlands from Nazi occupations. The allies tried to enter Germany many times but failed that is when American and Canadian entered southern Netherlands and their forces succeeded to enter Germany after many tries and saved many cities and lives. This showed how brave the Canadian military is
  • Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki

    Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki
    An American B-29 bomber dropped the worlds first atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima located in Japan. They wanted to force Japan to surrender as fast as possible to minimize American casualties. It Killed 80,000 people and the radiation exposure killed tens of thousands more later on.
