Canadians were sent to Juno beach which was one part of a massive invasion of 5 beaches at the same time, over 30K troops were at Juno beach. -

Allies were attacking Germany. Canada's job was to liberate netherlands from german troops. -
Hitler dies, Germany surrenders
Germany surrenders and Hitler and his wife commit suicide in Berlin bunker. This day was also known as VE day.
