    Gulags, or Jail, were used during this time period by the Russians, RUler at the time, Joseph Stalin, targeted Peasants, Priests, Doctors, Soldiers, Anti-Communists, and Communists. 20 million died over this 24 year course as a result of these camps/prisons
  • Stock Market Crash (Black Thursday)

    Stock Market Crash (Black Thursday)
    From 1920-29 stocks quadrupled in value. People began to buy stock with credit during this time. On Black Thursday, the stock market crashed, and the banking system fell into chaos as they tried to collect on loans made by stock market investors. With no one buying stocks, millionares became broke overnight. This day was the most devastating day in the New York Stock Market. As time went on, Jobs were down 25% so 1 in every 4 people were jobless due to this crash.

    On this day President Paul von Hindenburg names Adolf Hitler the new chancellor of Germany and the Nazi Party. This is the small action that causes great damage for decades to come.

    Japanese Invasion of Nanking
    During the Japanese Invasion of Nanking, Japan wanted more raw material due to their economic status after the Great Depression. During the Invasion, the Japanese unleashed violence on defeated Chinese soldiers and and helpless civilians. They killed, destroyed, vandalized, and massacred the Chinese, their property, etc,.

    Nazi Holocaust

    The Nai party, ruled by Adolf Hitler, Russians, Poles, Gypsies, Jews, and the Disabled and placed them in concentration camps, where they all suffered. Over 15 million lives were lost in this jail.

    German forces bombard Poland by land and by air as Hitler attempts to regain lost terriotory from the Treaty of Versailles. His objective is also to ultimately rule Poland.

    German's Attempt

    Hitler signed the Nazi-Soviet non-aggression pact in which they agreed to not attack eachother. Also, they secretly agreed to divide poland. Hitler had conquered most of Western Europe so now he planned to expand to Eastern Europe (Ssoviet Union), for Lebensraum (living space). Soviets suffered over 4 million casualties as Germans advanced to Russia. However, the Germans made mistakes like not having enough supplies which gave the Soviets and advantage,

    North African Campaign

    Benito Mussolini dclares war on France and Great Britain. One reason why he declared this war, that turned into an Allied victory, was a lack of raw materials. He also wanted to regain territory lost.

    The Blitz

    On this day in 1940, 300 German bombers raid London, in the first of 57 consecutive nights of bombing. This bombing/battle would continue until May 1941.
  • Operation Barbarossa (Germany invades Russia)

    Over 3 million German troops invade Russia in what will become one of the most powerful invasions in history. Nineteen panzer divisions, 3,000 tanks, 2,500 aircraft, and 7,000 artillery pieces pour across a thousand-mile front. Hitler also goes to war on a second front.
  • Attack On Pearl Harbor

    In December '41, the Japanese launched a torpedo attack at the US Naval Base Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. Thousands of lives were lost. The following day, President Roosevelt entered the U.S into the War.
  • America Joins.

    After the attack on Pearl Harbor, the US decided to enter the war. It is speculateed that the current president at the time knew that there would be an attack on the Base in Hawaii, but let it happen to get America on board to join then fight.
  • Battle of Midway (June 4-7)

    This battle was one of the most decisive in the history of the USA. During the 4-day span of this battle, the outnumbered US pacific fleet managd to destroy 4 Japanese aircraft, while only losing one in return (Yorktown). This battle ended any of Japan's chances of winning the war.

    Battle of Stalingrad

    This battle was between the Germans and Russia. Germany dropped tons of bombs on Russia, and killed over 2 Million people. This was the bloodiest battle in the war.
  • D-Day Invasions of Normandy

    On this day, the Allied powers moved through the English channel and landed on the beaches of Normandy (France). While there, the northern part of France would be freed and the invasion forces would prepare to move through Germany.
  • Mussolini Executed

    In an attempt to escape to a neutral country, Mussolini and his wife were captured by Italian partisans and executed (gunshot).

    Hitler commits sucide
    On April 30th, with the Soviets 300 meters away, Hitler and wife took their own lives (One with overdose, the other with gunshot wound.) This possibly eliminated all chances of the Resistance of winning the war
  • V-E Day

    Germany suurenders from the war after the death of Hitler, and the Allies declare victory.
  • Atomic Bombing (Hiroshima)

    At 8:16 Japanese time America dropped the Enola Gay, an atomic bomb, over Hiroshima, Japan. At least 80,000 people were killed immediatley by the blast. Another 35,000 were injured, and 60,000 more were dead by the end of the year as a result of the blast.
  • Atomic Bombing (Nagasaki)

    On this day, the second atomic bomb was dropped over Japan, whicch resulted in their surrender of World War 2. The bomb dropped at 11:02 AM and resulted in anywhere between 60,000 and 80,000 deaths.
