Hitlers rise in power was strongly due to the germans frustrations with the declining government at the time. Eventually, ex chancellor Franz von Papen helped appoint Hitelr as chancellor. Germany invades Poland
on september 1, 1.5 million German troops invaded Poland along the border. Hitlers intentions were to get his "superior" German race to live in the extra space while the locals would be enslaved. Churchill becomes leader
Post resignation of Neville Chamberlain, Winston Churchill ran for Prime minister. He was known by politicians as "unreliable and impetuous" and was always switching parties. Italy gets involved

Battle of Britain
Hitler prepared for a British invasion named "operation sea lion" by ordering bomb runs. The non aggression pact was made to keep peace and avoid attacks. This was broken when the Nazis invaded the soviet union. Attack on Pearl Harbor

Bataan Death March
American troops on the Bataan peninsula of the Philippines surrendered to Japanese soldiers. The captured men were forced on a 75 mile march where almost half died of starvation and dehydration. The prisoners of war were released after 3.5 years but only a tenth survived.

Battle of coral sea
in attempt to strengthen their forces in the south Pacific, Japanese forces wanted to take over the Coral sea. When they landed, American battle planes commanded by Frank J. Fletcher attacked. This marked the first air-sea battle in history. This ended with 1 transport damaged and 92 aircraft destroyed.

America was able to decode communications within the Japanese to counter a planned attack on its last few aircrafts and counter the attack, winning the battle

Battle of Stalingrad
the Nazis and its allies went to battle with the USSR over the city of Stalingrad which at the time was a large industrial city. Over a million members of the red army were killed and 800,00 casualties on the axis side were suffered. only 5-6 thousand returned home and the rest were killed in soviet union labor camps

Italy surrenders to Allies
Dwight Eisenhower publicly announces the surrender of Italy to the Allies. Hitler had planned to invade Italy to keep the allies from getting the upper foothold. When italian soldiers resisted, 1,646 were killed. The man conflicts got Italy to drop out of the war.

D-Day
Liberating western Europe from Nazi Germany control, Britain and Canada invaded France. This took extensive planning and the Normandy landings are still famous today. It stopped hitler from sending troops from France to build up his Eastern Front against the advancing Soviets.

Soviet soldiers were the first to liberate concentration camp prisoners in the final stages of the war. They took over the polish camp Majdanek and later overran several other killing centers. This weakened the trust between the nations.

battle of bulge
Hitler tried to split the Allied armies in northwest Europe by a surprise blitzkrieg through the Ardennes to Antwerp. As the Germans drove deeper, a large bulge came into view, hence the name. Lieutenant General George S. Patton’s successful maneuvering of the Third Army to Bastogne was bad for the Allied defense, leading to the neutralization of the Germany despite many deaths.

Battle of Iwo Jima
Because of Americas need of a Base near the Japanese coast, the US attacked Iwo Jima which was defended by 23,000 Japanese soldiers. The marines were eventually wiped out and an american flag was risen in victory.

As a result of the Manhattan project, the first atomic bomb was dropped by america over Japanese city Nagasaki, killing 1/3 of the civilians.

End of ww2
As a result of the bombs, the Japanese navy and air force were destroyed. The country was weak and at its breaking point along with the USSR joining against them. This forced them to surrender.
