On this day Hitler announced himself Fuhrer after president Paul Von Hidenburg dies. He is now the leader of the Nazi party and head of the government. He now has the most power in Germany. This date is important because 4 yeras later he is finally able to start taking control of countries in Europe. Before he took control of Europe he was just a normal person then he showed the real meaning of everything and went to conquer Europe. -
The day before September 1, 1939, the Soviet Union and Germany sign a "Non-Aggressive" Pact. The Non Aggressive pact states that Germany wouldn't attack the Soviet Union and that the Soviet Union wouldn't attack Germany. This is important because he now is able to pursue his domination of Europe without worrying about the Soviet Union intervention. 3 days after HItler takes Poland France and Britian declare war on Germany. This officially starts World War II. -
On this day France surrenders to Germany. France surrendered to Germany because French leaders realized that German assult on French territory wouldn't be good. They moved eveyone from The top of France to the bottom Which was now known as Vichy France. This is important because France also declared war on Germany but they are now under German control. Germany now focuses on Britian. Now that FRance is gone Britian has no back up. -
On this day Japan bombed Pearl Harbor Hawaii. In less than 3 hours they destroyed 19 ships(5 battleships and 188 planes). This bombing caused 2,300 lives to be lost and more 3,400 casualties. This is an important date in history because this caused the United States to join into World War II and join the Allies. Once we started into World War II familys at home had to ration food, crush cans and women had to take mens jobs. -
Battle of Stalingrad lasted 5 long cold months. Germany lost this battle against the Soviets. Soviet Unuion ended up fighting Germany alone. This is important because the "Non-Aggressive" pact is now broken and the soviets have now entered World War II. The Soviets now went further and took control of the countries near them that was over taken by Germany. -
On this day 175,000 allied forces came a shore in Normandy, France. On August 25, 1945 American and French troops liberated Paris. Soon after Luxembourg, Belgium and France were set free from German control. This is important because it was the start of end of German control in France. Hitler was losing ground and losing war. -
The Battle of the Bulge was Hitler's last offensive battle. His plan was to push through the allied forces and split Britian and American men apart. After they split them apart they were to surrond each one and secure a surrender treaty. The weather was extrmley cold and snowwy. This is important because Hitler's last offensive battle failed. Once he lost the Battle of the Bulge he lost the rest of the war. -
During the Battle of Berlin Hitler knew he was losing so he commited suicide. This is important because the Nazi Party lost their leader. Without their leader the Nazi party had no directions on what to do. Not long after Germany surrender to the Allied Forces. -
When we dropped the atomic bomb on Nagasaki it was our second atomic bomb dropping in Japan within a week. 39,000 lives were lost from the radiation and from the impact of the bomb. This is important because it was our second time ever dropping an atomic bomb. -
VJ day was the day Japan surrendered to the world. This is important because it put an end to World War II and also gives us a flashback in time to show us how America really is. During the surrender treaty signing we had it on an american warship in Tokyo Bay, we had one person sign the documents with six pens, US plans flew over Japan once the signing was done and we handed out cards to remind people that Japan surrendered to the wolrd.
