Hitler joined the Nazi party and quickly took over, and in 1933 the president of the Weimar Republic appointed him chancellor and in 2 years he became president and chancellor and ruled unchecked by the Reichstag. by 1935 he had completely silenced the Weimar Republic and Hitler was the only voice in Germany. -
Italy invades Ethiopia
Mussolini had a plan to bring back power to Italy and help get out of depression. He invaded Ethiopia, and Ethiopia requested help from the league of Nations, but no help came and Italy took over Ethiopia. -
Japan puts more power into their military
Japan after taking power and size away from the military in the 20s put more in during the 30s because of the depression. Japan believed they need to expand more into Asia and that would bring them out of economic troubles. they took over land in Manchuria and China. -
America decides to stay out of the war but still benefits
the Neutrality Act of 1939 allowed belligerent states to buy goods and arms in the United States if they paid cash and carried them on their own ships. because Britain controlled the seas this mainly helped them and the allies. even though the US was staying out of the fighting they were still making money from it. -
German-Soviet Pact
Germany and Soviet Union make a pact to not interfere with each other and to not aid the others enemies and it also secretly split up territories between the two countries -

Germany takes over multiple countries
Germany because of the pact with the Soviet Union attacked Denmark and Norway and they fell quickly. Then Germany sent its forces to Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg which also all fell to Germany. Because Hitler was feeling so invincible from these victories he had his eyes set on France and Britain. -
The Miracle of Dunkirk
With Germany trying to take Britain and France with a strategy of attacking the front and the rear, they tried to press the French and British troops against the British channel, but with a few tactical mistakes by the Germans Britain was able to evacuate 338,000 soldiers both French and British from the shores of Dunkirk. if this had not happened Germany would have most likely taken over both France and Britain not just France. -
The Axies and Allies form
these two groups where the sides that where fighting together in WW2. the Axies powers were Germany, Italy, Japan, and a few other nations. the Allies where Britain, France, and eventually joining would be America, Soviet Union, and China. the Axies powers signed the tripartite pact to make it official -
United States move closer to joining the fight
Congress passed the Lend-Lease act which allowed FDR to lend any country things if he felt it necessary to protect the US. he gave 40 billion to the Allies by the end of the war, which basically meant US was declaring economic war against the Axis powers -

Japanese bomb Pearl Harbor American naval base, and causes US to finally join the war after 2 years of holding out -
Bataan Death March
Japanese captured 75,000 American and Filipino soldiers and made the sick and malnourished march 55 miles to a railroad and then 8 more miles. 7,000 of the men died, this shows how awful the Japanese were to pows and this angered the US -
Battle of Coral Sea
The Japanese wanted to take Port Moresby in New Guinea where they could be a threat to Australia. to counter this US sent to Bombers USS Lexington and USS Yorktown to attack the ships. the Japanese did the same this was the first sea battle where the ships did not see one another the planes attacked the ships on both sides. even though the battle is seen as a draw it was strategical victory for the US because it caused the Japs to call of their attack on New Guinea, and it was a moral victory -
Nazi concentration camp liberated
Soviets liberated the concentration camp Auschwitz and for the first time saw the atrocities of the Nazi's who where torturing and killing jews and others who opposed them. led to others liberating more camps and should how brutal the Nazi's were. -

Created after WW2 to police the world mostly Europe, similar to the league of nations, but this time America joined it as well. it is still around today -

Battle between US and Japanese on the island of Iwo Jima, US won the battle. important because with controlling the island it was a place for bomber plans to land because it was closer to Tokyo. The battle raised moral of the soldiers of America. -

US dropped the first Atomic Bomb on the Japanese killing many people, and then also dropped another causing even more death. These bombs led to the surrender of the Japanese and the end of WW2 -
