Germany invades Poland
Poland falls very quickly. They are a young country and do not have a strong military to protect them. -
England and France declare war on Germany
Englad and France agreed to support Poland in the event of an invasion. When Hitler invades Poland it takes them a while to mobilize and become ready for war. -
Russia invades Poland
The Soviet Union invades Eastern Poland after Germany invades the western half. They tak over the land easily without much resistance from Poland. -
France falls to Germany
Germany invades France after the "Phoney War". This war was when Germany and France were preparing for war but weren't actually fighting yet. Germany takes over France even in Paris. -
57 day Battle of Britain ends
The Battle of Britain lasted 57 days. Germany never officially won but it dropped bombs on Britain and the people of Britain gid underground in subways. -
Hitler breaks non-aggression pact and invades Russia
Earlier before the war started, Russia and Germany made a pact that said that they would not fight eachother for ten years. Germany then breaks this pact and invades the Soviet Union trying to gain control of it. -
Japan bombs Pearl Harbor
Japan launches a surprise attack on the US naval base in Hawaii. Over 2,400 Americans were killed in this attack and 21 ships were either damaged or destroyed. -
United States and Great Britain declare war on Japan
The United States and Britain declare war on Japan because of Pearl Harbor. This declaration of war happens on the day after Pearl Harbor occurred. -
Triple axis powers declare war on United States
Since the United States declared war on Japan, the whole Triple Axis decides to declare war on the United States. -
D-Day
This is the day when 156,000 people from Great Britain, the United States, and Canada land in Normandy to try to free the people of western Europe. -
Hitler suicide
Hitler kills himself inside a bunker because he knew that Germany was going to lose the war since the Allies were closing in on them. -
Germany surrenders
Germany surrenders to the Allies after years of battle since their the Allies are closing in from all sides of them. -
VE Day
The victory in Europe after Germany surrenders the day before. This is the day when the Allies officially defeated Germany. -
Atomic bomb on Hiroshima
The United States drops their first atomic bomb on Japan on Hiroshima. This was the smaller of the two atomic bombs. -
Atomis bomb on Nagasaki
This was when the United States dropped the second atomic bomb on Japan in Nagasaki. It was the larger of the two bombs and was dropped three days later than the first. -
VJ Day
The day that Japan surrenders because of the atomic bombs that were used on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Japan didn't know those were the United States only two atomic bombs.
