Most Jews lived in countries Germany had control over during the World War II. During the final months of the War guardes moved inmates known as Death Marches. The Death Marches stopped on May 7, 1945, the day the Germany surrendered to the Allies. The war officially ended the next day, May 8, 1945.

    Soviets attack Finland
    The Red Army crosses the Soviet-finnish border with 465,000 men and 1,000 aircraft. Helsinki was bombed and 61 men were killed. The soviets and the western countries were convinced that the invasion would be fairly easy. Presidant Roosevelt gave Finland $10 million in pay back for their help in World War I. By March 1940, negotiations with Soviets began and Finland lost control over the Karelian Isthmus which the Soviets wanted.

    The battle of Britain happend after the British were pushed out of France and forced back on their home land. The Germans air bombed the British Isles for a long time while the British fought back by sending fighters up in the sky to fight off the German bombing raids. Eventually Germany sent rockets at them which Britain eventually stopped as well.

    On September 7th, 1941 the Imperial Japanese Navy attacked Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The base was attacked by 353 Japanese fighters, bombers and torpedo planes. Over 2,000 Americans died and around 1,000 people were wounded. Eight U.S. Navy battleships were damaged, with four being sunk. This causes tensions between the United States and Japan, so the U.S enters World War II.

    After years if being tortured the American troops that were being held by the Japanese forces were liberated. They originally surrendered to the Japanese hoping to get fair treatment. Instead they were starved and tortured for years and few of the American troopers survived the Japanese captivaty.

    In 1945, the Allies of World War II made two atomic bombs to be used on two cities in Japan, Hiroshima and Nagasaki. These events were the only two that involved nuclear weapons. The bombs were called, "Little Boy" and "Fat Man". "Little Boy" hitting Hiroshima and "Fat Man" hitting Nagasaki. The two bombs together killed 150,000-246,000 people.
