    Battle of Liege
    The battle of Liege was the first battle of world war 1. It took place in Belgium and lasted 11 days. Belgium was defended by 12 forts built on high ground. Germany used what they called the Schlieffen Plan made up by the German Chief of staff Alfred von Schlieffen. The plan was made to invade Belgium so then once they took over Belgium they could get into France.

    The battle of Dogger Bank took place in the North Sea between the British and Gremans. Decoded radio intercepts told the Britsih that the Germans were heading to Dogger Bank. The British launched suprise a attack on the German High Seas fleet who then retreated back to home. During the battle Germany lost 954 men and the ship Blucher was sunk.

    The battle took place in the city of Verdun in France. The battle lasted 10 months with a total of 976,000 casualties. The Germans fired close to 1,000,000 shells at the forts defending Verdun. The noise of the exploding shells could be herd 99 miles away and it was the first time the German used flamethrowers against the French trenches.

    The battle took place in France between the Canadian Corps and the German Sixth Army. The Canadian Corps objective was to trake control of the high ground outside the town of Givenchy-en-Gohelle. The Canadian Corps won the battle and the German forces retreated. The Canadian Corps had 3,598 dead, but they captured 4,000 German soldiers.

    The battle took place in Cambrai,France between the British and German armys toward the end of world war 1. The British used 324 tanks in battle to overwhelm the German army resulting in a victory. The Canadian and New Zealand armys also helped the British when the battle.
