    Nuremberg Trials
    The Nuremberg trials were held in Germany between 1945 and 1949. These trials were held to prosecute and kill Nazi and military officals for being involed in the Holocaust and other war crimes. Allied courts tried more then two hundred of these people.

    The ending of the war left Germany in ruins and without a governemt. They needed to rebuild the naition
  • Postdam Conference

    Postdam Conference
    In the summer of 1945 at the Postdam Conference American and Bristish leaders argued Eastern Europe which was bordered the Soviet Union and was occupied by Soviet forces. This led to future conflicts becuase they believed that Stalin planned to establish pro-Soviet Communist goverentment throughout Eastern Europe

    President Truman`s Warning
    In January of 46 President Truman warned his secretary of state, "Another war is in the making." He said this because Communism was spreding throughout Eastern Europe and tension between Soviet Union and the western democracies continued to grow. It worsened by the Soviet failure of removing their troops from Iran.

    Stalin`s beliefs
    Stalin stated durning Febuary of 1946 that he believed war between the East and West was bound to happen in the future, Later on Winston Churchill used an image of an iron curtain to symbolize the seperation of Europe due to the Soviet actions.

    In early 1947 the Soviet-back Communists were threathening the governments of Greece and Turkey. This was shortly followed by the making of the Truman Docttine writen by President Truman. This Doctrine was a pledge to provide economic and military aid to oppose the spread of communism.

    Codtions were worsening and President Truman was worried the Europens might turn communist. In mid 1947 the U.S. launched a massive program of economic aid. The Marshall Plan named after George Marshall provided $13 billion for rebuilding Europe.

    Th division in Germany was longer then expected. In 1947 western leaders began planning for the creation of an independent democratic German nation, to be free from the three western zones of occupation.

    In June of 1948 the Soviets blocked off all land, rail and water routes in West Berlin. West Berlin`s people couldnt import any supplies. This led to the Berlin airlift,

    Berlin airlift
    With this blockade Berlin organized the Berlin airlift. This was a huge effort to airlift supplies to West Berlin by air. At one point in time a cargo plane was landing every 30 seconds. This led the Soviets to call off the blockade in 1949.

    In June 1950 the North Koreans attacked the South Koreans. Thier intentions were to untie the country under a Communist government. The Untied Nations got invloved this led to war to stop Communism spreading to other places.

    The North Koreans overwelming the Untied Nations troops the decided to back out. In 1951 the war settled into a stalemate.

    In 1953 both side agreed to and armistice. After three years of fighting the Korean War was over. Even with all of the fighting the North Koreans were still a Communist state and the South Koreans was an ally of the Wst.
  • New Alliances

    New Alliances
    After the crisis in Berlin they decided to take action. All of the Western European countries joined together and formed the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, or NATO they were designed to counter Soviet power in Europe. This led to the Soviet Union and the Communist nations forming thier own alliance in 1955 know as the Warsaw Pact.
