Jackie Mitchell was a professional baseball player for the Chattanooga Lookouts when she struck out Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig in succession during an exhibition game against the Yankees. This led baseball commissioner Kennesaw Mountain Landis to void her contract on the grounds that baseball was too strenuous for women.
