    Shakespeare is born

    On April 23rd 1564, William Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-avon by John Shakespeare and Mary Arden. John Shakespeare was a glover and a leather merchant. Mary Arden was a landed local heiress. William was the third of eight children, with three who died as children. This even is significant because this was the start of Shakespeares life.

  • William Shakespeare and Anne Hathaway get married.

    On November 28th 1582 William Shakespeare and Anne Hathaway get married. William was 18 and Anne was 26 and pregnant. Six months after their marriage their first child was born. Throughout their marriage William and Anne had 3 children, one who died.

  • Shakespeare's twins were born.

    On February 2nd 1585 Shakespeare's twins, Hamnet and Judith, were born. At the age of eleven Shakespeare's son Hamnet died by catching the disease, the Black Death. This event is significant because seven years after his twins are born Shakespeare has no records until 1592.

  • Shakespeare's first printed play

    In 1594 Shakespeare had his first printed play called Titus Andronicus. A foul tale about revenge, with alot of bloodshed and brutality. The play was not printed with Shakespeare credited as author during his lifetime. This event is significant because this was his first printed play out of a total of 38 plays he wrote. Also, this was Shakespeare's first tragedy.

  • Shakespeare writes Romeo and Juliet

    In 1596 Shakespeare wrote one of his most famouse Romeo and Juliet. This play is about two families, Montague and Capulet, who have a rivalry and an ongoing feud. Romeo, from the Montague family falls in love with Juliet, from the Capulet family. Their families don't want them to see eachother so they do it in privacy. This event is significant because this play has remained extremely popular even since the 1500's, and has been remade into many movies.

  • Robert Southwell publishes The Triumphs Over Death

    In 1596 The Triumphs Over Death by Robert Sothwell is published posthumously.

  • Shakespeare writes the play Julius Caesar

    In 1599 Shakespeare writes the play Julius Caesar. Julius Caesar is a tragedy about the Roman dictator Julius Caesar, portraying his assassination and battles. This event is significant because this play is still popular now, and has lastly been performed in 2012.

  • Opening of the Globe Theatre

    In 1599 the Globe Theatre was opened. The Globe Theatre was constructed in 1599, out of timber taken from the Theatre. It stood next to the Rose, on the south side of the Thames, and was the most elaborate and attractive theatre yet built. The Globe was designed and constructed for the Chamberlain's Men by Cuthbert Burbage, son of the Theatre's creator, James Burbage. This event is significant because this is the primary home of Shakespeares acting company.

  • Richard Hakluyt publishes map of North America

    In 1599 an English geographer Richard Hakluyt published a recognizable map of North America. Richard went on a voyage to the Americas and recorded everything and wrote out a map of North America.

  • A colony is established on the St. Lawrence River

    In 1600 French fur traders established a colony on the St. Lawrence River at the mouth of the Saguenay. The colonies were Newfoundland and Acadia. The location of the colony gradually expanded to include much of the Great Lakes Region.

  • Shakespeare wrote Hamlet

    In 1601 William Shakespeare wrote Hamlet. Hamlet is about the Prince of Denmark who is visited by a ghost that resembles his dead father. The ghost tells Hamlet his father was killed by Claudius, the King's brother who took the throne and married Hamelt's mother after his father died. The ghost encourages Hamlet to get revenge on Claudius. This event is significant because Hamlet became an instant hit and gained popularity and gave Shakespeare recognition from the public.

  • The word coffee is established

    In 1601 the word coffee appears in an English account by William Parry.

  • Nova Scotia is established

    In 1604 Samuel de Champlain explored the North American coast from Maine to what is now Cape Cod. He establishes a colony at what will be called Nova Scotia. He traveled with his colleague Pierre Du Gua de Monts and a small group of fellow adventurers.

  • Nanticut is established

    In 1605 English explorer, George Waymouth, lands on an island off the North American coast and calls it Nanticut. George concluded an agreement with the East India Company in September 1601 to make a voyage to the north-west. He made the voyage to discover a passage to India.

  • William Shakespeare writes Macbeth

    In 1606 William Shakespeare wrote Macbeth. Macbeth is one of Shakespeare's darkest and bloodiest plays. Macbeth is a power hungry man who kills the king to become king and becomes a killer afterwards. This event is significant because Macbeth is now a widely known and liked book because it teaches lessons about power and how everything is not how it seems.

  • William Shakespeare dies

    On April 23rd William Shakespeare dies. It is unknown how he died, although half a century after his death it was said that he drank too hard one night and contracted a fever and died.
