  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    The Ohio Valley was located in a place where the French and British wanted to use. George Washington declared legal rights to 500,000 acres of the land while the French were building forts along the land. Conflict started when the French Fort Duquesne and Washington's Fort Necessity disagreed.
  • Treaty of 1763

    Treaty of 1763
    The Treaty of Paris ended the French and Indian War in 1763 between Britain and France. It stated that the French were to give up all of their land in America which allowed Britain to take over the land.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    The Proclamation of 1763 was made by the British was used to keep settlers from advancing to the Appalachian Mountains. This made it to where the British could control westward expansion but unfortunately it was not successful. It was not enforced and settlers ignored it.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act was brought upon by the British unto the colonies in 1765. The colonists were forced to buy stamps for legal documents, licenses, newspapers, etc. The colonists disagreed with this tax because they did not believe they should be paying a tax for the British.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre was caused by protest in the colonies against the taxation and the British came to control it. Unfortunately it became violent, and many lives were taken. This event shows how oppressed and mistreated the colonists were by the British. Propaganda was placed by the colonies against the soldiers who killed the protesters. Eventually the soldiers were found guilty of the massacre.

    Samuel Adams was the leader of the resistance movement in 1772 and he created the The Committees of Correspondence. He declared that they should express their grievances against England throughout the colonies.
  • Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party was a protest led by the Sons of Liberty in Massachusetts. The protesters dressed as Indians and dumped gallons of British tea into the harbor in an attempt to express their problems with the tea act. The British demanded repayment for the tea but the colonists refused.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    The Intolerable Acts were placed on the colonies in response to the Boston Tea Party. The laws were: closed port of Boston, autonomic government, criminals were now tried in England, troops must be quartered. This started a new resistance in other colonies as well because the treatment was so unfair.

    Lexington and Concord
    The battles of Lexington and Concord started the American Revolution. The British travelled to Concord to take hidden weapons from the colonists. The British were defeated and this was a victory for the colonists.
  • Bunker Hill

    Bunker Hill
    At the beginning of the Revolutionary War, the Americans were defeated by the British, which is the battle of Bunker Hill. Although they lost, the British had a large amount of casualties. Because of this, the colonists believed they were ready for another battle.

    The Publication of Common Sense was a pamphlet explaining the future for the colonies written by Thomas Paine. It discussed independence from Britain and used the basic language so everyone would be able to understand it.
  • Declaration of Independence

    The Declaration of Independence was a document where the colonists stated their independence from Britain. Their connections with the British were completely severed.
  • Valley Forge

    Valley Forge was where George Washington created a better and more unified Continental Army. It was brutal conditions such as cold weather, constant battles with the British, consistent hungry, no sleep, etc.
  • Saratoga

    The battle of Saratoga included two battles which eventually led to a victory for the Americans. Because the Americans won the battles, this set up the expectation that the Americans were stronger than anyone else.
  • Cowpens

    Cowpens
    The battle of Cowpens was fought in South Carolina that caused a tremendous amount of casualties on the British army. This victory also provided the Americans with a confidence boost.
  • Yorktown

    Yorktown
    The battle of Yorktown marked the end of the battles of the American Revolution. The British General Cornwallis surrenders to George Washington. This was a huge victory for the Americans because this showed that they were finally independent of Britain.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Treaty of Paris
    The Treaty of Paris officially ended the Revolutionary War with Britain. Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, and John Jay negotiated the treaty with King George III of England. The treaty granted independence to the Americans and received land that practically doubled its size.
