-
The butterfly starts off as a simple egg. This stage lasts four days.
-
The next stage after the egg is the caterpillar. During this stage the caterpillar eats as much as it can. The caterpillar lasts approximately 4 weeks in this stage.
-
After the caterpillar is done eating and growing it forms a cocoon. The caterpillar stays in a cocoon for five to twenty-one days.
-
Once the caterpillar is ready to break out of its cocoon it is no longer a caterpillar. Some caterpillars will transform to moths.
-
Finally, some moths transform and gain color transforming into a butterfly. Some months do stay as months and do not change form anymore. Both moths and butterflies only live for 12 months.
