    The war began when Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated in 1914. There were two sides, the Central Powers and the Allied Powers. The first world war was the first war to use tanks aircraft and battleships.     The second world war basically set the grounds for the formation of the EU because everyone was like hey it is good to stick together why don't we do that.
