    In an effort to fight the UMWA, coal companies began to fire and evict any union worker. Three people were shot and killed when gun fire erupted in various mining towns in Logan County.
  • The Battle of Blair Mountain

    The Battle of Blair Mountain
    About 5,000 miners gathered in Charleston to protest against the coal companies and march south towards Logan County. Around 7 to 20,000 miners joined to confront WV State Police and coal company employees in what came to be known as the Battle of Blair Mountain.
