    fascism was an authoritarian political moment that developed in italy & other european countries after 1919.
    -fascist program emphasized intense nationalism, productivism, anti sociallism, elitism & the need for a strong leader mussolini.
  • JOSEPH STALIN-USSR

    -joseph stalin was a powerful communist leader in the early years of the soviet union.He was a dictator who terrorized the population & send many people to prision & labor camps.
    -one of the communist leaders greatest task was collectivize farming. stalin created a state-owned farms.
    -while stalin was the leader he steadily increased his power. many of his enemies were shot or sent to siberia.

    -torpedoes was used to destroy submarines & ships from long distance ,b/c bullets couldn't go far & do a lot of damage
    -bombing raids, were use to destroy anything in a certain area ,such as factories that produce military equipment in WW2
    -wolf packs were German submarines that had mass-attack tactics against convoys. a group of ships,warships& submarines that attack a certain target all at once

    -the german invasion of western poland on 1 sep. 1939 led to WW2. between 1939 & 1941 the german army invaded & occupied many countries including the netherlands, belgium,lexembourg,france,denmark,norway & western poland. the invasion of poland led both britian & france to declare war on germany ,& then began war , because german invasions continued more of the countries declared war on the germans & their allies which caused a international response of war.

    women joined the new women's army corps after basic training most of these women took clerical jobs in the military.women replaced jobs formerly helped by men, a shipbuilding & aircraft proanction. the idea was to have women fill jobs held by men to send more men to war. between 1941-1945more than 6.5 mil.women entered the work force .

    CAUSE: the attack on pearl harbor in december 1941 led to growing suspicions largely by racism & fear about the loyalty of Japanese Americans
    EFFECT -Japanese ancestry was classified as "enemy aliens" curfews were instituted & assets were frozen 120,000 Japanese American were informed that the gov would FORBLY remove them from their communities to relocate centers

    -the Bataan death march happened after the US surrender of the Bataan peninsula it affected the war tide in favor of the axis powers. allied prisoners were forced to march 65miles to prison Campos, where thousands died from disease, mistreatment & situation

    -the battle of midway pushed the war tide in favor of the allied powers since it was one of the most decisive US victories against japan.

    -the purpose of this student porgnizaton was to prepare highschool students to aid in the war effort on homefront lines.
    -both girls & boys from white & african american schools participated.

  • KOREMATSU V. UNITED STATES

    -korematsu was a Japanese-American convicted of staying in a restricted area
    -he believed his constitutional rights were violated
    -Roosevelt ordered that the constitutional liberties may be limited during war time
    -this case went against the executive order 9066
    -50 yrs later congress apologized & payed reparations to jap-americans.

    -as part of the war effort, the gov. rationed foods like sugar, butter, milk, cheese, eggs coffee, meat, & canned goods.
    -the gov. turned to its citizens & encouraged them to plant "victory gardens"

  • WAVES

    -women accepted for volunteer emergency service (WAVES),was created in 1942 in response to the need for additional military personnel during WW2. WAVES were an official part of the navy,its members held the same rank & ratings as male personnel. WAVES could not serve aboard combat ships or aircraft , and initially were restricted to anty in the continental US. at the end of WW2 , there were over 8,000 female officers.

    -he was the USA last surviving officer who ranked as a fleet admiral
    -admiral Chester was appointed commander in chief of the US pacific fleet just after pearl harbor.
    he commanded US forces at the battle of midway
    - this battle halted the Japanese advance in the pacific

    -African American military pilots (fighters&bombers) who fought in WW2.
    -1ST black service men to serve as military aviators in US armed forces.
    -US air force did not exist as a separate entity. the army RESISTED Using black men as pilots but, in response to a pending lawsuit conceded to creating a segregated unit for them.
  • WOMEN & MINORITY (after WW2)

    -while the men went to fight in the war the women were left to work in the factories.after the war men came back to reclaim their positions at factories but the women didn't want to give them up. spurring up the feminist movement. in the war men of color fought along side white men for the first time. when they got back from the war they were treated with the same racial sivurs. sparking the civil rights movement
