Dropped out of school to join the army but was too young. He joined the red cross and was sent to France to drive an ambulance.

He returned from France and was looking for a job in newspaper art. He worked with Kansas City Theater to screen Walt’s cartoons. He hired his first employee, Fred Harman. The cartoons were a success, but the company was bankrupt by 1923.

On this date, Walt Disney premiered Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. This was the first full-length animated film and it premiered in Los Angeles. It won 8 oscars and brought in a profit of over a million dollars. He would continue on and make Pinocchio, Bambi, Fantasia, and Dumbo.

Walt Disney’s mother dies from asphyxiation. It was caused from fumes coming out of a faulty furnace. Walt and his brother and business partner Roy moved his parents to that home, and this accident affected Walt for the rest of his life.
