Vladek moves to Sosnowiec in late 1936 and marries Anja in February.

Vladek receives a letter from the Polish government drafting him to the army.

The Polish Army sends Vladek to the front to fight the Germans. The Polish lose this encounter and Vladek is taken as a prisoner. (This is a map of the Polish-German fronts during World War 2)

Vladek and his family are forced out of their home and into their first ghetto. (page 82)

Vladek and Anja are captured by Nazis as they attempt to be smuggled into Hungary and are taken to Auschwitz instead.

Vladek gets a job as a tinman with hopes that this job will keep him safe from the Nazi selections.

Vladek starts to work as a shoemaker, and this job proves even more valuable with the benefits of fixing every guard's shoes.

The Nazis march the prisoners out of Auschwitz toward Gross-Rosen. (This photograph is of the thousands, even millions of jews and other prisoners of Auschwitz as they marched to a new camp)

Vladek finally finds Anja in Sosnowiec after he had spent some time searching for her, and the two are very happy.

Anja commits suicide, and both Art and Vladek are torn apart by it not only because of what happened, but because she didn't leave a note. (This comic panel is taken from Art's comic "Prisoner on a Hell Planet" about his mother Anja's suicide)
