Vladek and Anja were introduced by Vladek's cousin whom Anja took classes with. When Vladek returned home, he soon dumped Lucia and began having phone conversations with Anja frequently throughout the days.

Children During Holocaust Richeu is Vladek and Anja's first son who was born when the war was slowly unraveling. It's terrible to know that the only life this boy knew was the Halocaust and anti-semitism.

Anja developed depression while Vladek was staying in Bielsko to find them a home. He recieved a call from home informing him of Anja's sickness. In tier 2 panel 3 on page 31 of Maus I, Anja is pictured thrown over her couch exlaiming "But I don't care. I just don't want to live!" They believed that the birth of Richeu was "too much of a strain", resulting in her breakdown. Their doctor recomended a sanitarium, and that's where Anja and Vladek stayed for three months.

Here, Vladek worked cleaning stables until they were moved to a larger prisoner camp with better living conditions, although they were given the task of moving mountains.

List of GhettosGhettos were an extermination of Jews and Holocaust victims by placing them in outrageously crammed housing with terrible living conditions. Vladek and Anja were placed in these ghettos with Anja's parents

Tosha is the woman whom Richieu was staying with because it was unsafe for him to stay with Anja and Vladek. The Nazi's were exterminating the ghetto Tosha was residing in, but she refused to die to the Germans. "I was will go to the gas chambers. And my children will not go to the gas chambers." She said, riping the bottle of poisen from around her neck.

When Vladek first arrives in Auschwitz, he excpects to never leave through the gates that read arbeit macht frei. -
Railways Vladek used his blanket to create a hammock like bed which kept him alive during his time on the trains. This gave him the ability to eat snow from the roof, have breathing room, and avoid getting injured.

Once reunited with Anja, Vladek and her have Art, their second child. Art went on to write the graphic novels Mus I and Maus II, telling this story of his fathers survival in the Holocaust. Had Anja and Vladek never met, Vladek's story never would have been known.
