    Post French and Indian War England was at peace.
    They accumulated a massive debt for all the wars fought.
    To pay off the debt they increased taxation of the colonies.
    They believed that many of the wars were fought in the interest for the protection of the colonies.
  • Treaty of Paris 1763

    Treaty of  Paris 1763
    The Treaty of Paris was a treaty which resulted in the end of the French and Indian War; it involved France, Canada, England, Florida, and Spain. England gained Canadian colonies, Florida and the rights to Caribbean slave trade, after France lost. Spain gained French territory west of the Mississippi River and New Orleans. France ended up giving up its land to Britain.
  • Proclamation

    Proclamation
    Demanded settlers incapable of progressing beyond the Appalachian Mountains. It involved; England and the settlers/colonists. It Authorized England to manage the expansion westward. Most native american tribes prefered the line.
    The Proclamation resulted in failure, caused minimal effect on limiting colonial expansion, despite British rule, settlers continued to claim lands farther into the Ohio River Valley, It was not policed by British troops.

    Made to eliminate the illegal sugar trade between the French/ Spanish West Indies and the colonists.
    lowered the duty on molasses, damaged the sugar grown in the colonies, strengthened the enforcement on sugar.
    Established a trial for smugglers in America.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act was a tax which Britain placed on stamps. the tax itself was not expensive but it was a matter of principle. The colonists were infuriated with the British. This event would be one of the reasons that started the revolution, and that fueled the colonists to want independence. The Act affected lawyers and merchants by requiring them to buy stamps for ships', papers, and legal documents, Tavern owners requiring them to buy stamps for licenses, and Printers for newspapers.

    Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre broke out before the news of the repeal even reached the southern colonies.
    The Massacre quickly evolved by local resistance leaders.
    formed a graphic symbolism of British oppression and brutality.
    Soldiers were presented in court and tried, later found guilty for manslaughter, but labeled murderers by colonial propaganda.

    Boston Tea Party
    The Boston Tea party was an event caused by the British East India company. the company was on the verge of bankruptcy and placed a tax on the tea in order to save the company. This allowed Britain to go behind American companies back by underselling them. This led to the revolt and boycott by the colonists because they placed taxes on the export of tea. Through the experience it strengthened the bond and relationship of the colonists by bringing them together to defeat one common enemy.

    Intolerable Act
    The Intolerable Act allowed Britain to punish the colonists for the Boston tea party and the damage to the British economy. This allowed the British soldiers to search the colonist's homes whenever they wanted to. It also causes the Boston harbor to closed and it did not allow for any town meetings. The punishment the British enforced on the Massachusetts colony was in order to warn the other colonies to not revolt against the king.

    Battles of Lexington and Concord
    The Battle of Lexington and Concord was about British soldiers who were tipped off that Lexington had weapon stockpiles. Paul Revere rode from Boston to Lexington to warn that the British were coming. his message arrived on time and after they found nothing at Lexington the British went over to concord to find the minutemen waiting for them. If it weren't for the lose of the battle of Lexington then they would have never won the battle of concord
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Battle of Bunker Hill
    Though the minute men lost the battle they proved to the british that they could fight and defend better than they thought. this caused for the british to tread more cautiously because of the mass casualties. The British General Gage led two other attempts before this and lost both battles. although they eventually seized the hill in the third attempt the casualties were so big that the minute men considered it a win.

    Publication of "Common Sense"
    Common sense was published as a political pamphlet that inspired the idea of america's independence from britain. and it worked! it sold immediately and inspired many colonists to keep fighting for independence.It was a much needed pep talk for the colonists because at the time they were tired of fighting, but the pamphlet inspired them to keep going to gain independence.

    Declaration of Independence
    The Declaration of Independence was a letter, mostly written by Thomas Jefferson, to the king to say that they had enough with the kings rule and they wanted to make their own choices freely. They were breaking free from the kings control, "Declaring Independence" It listed all the complaints they had with The Kings unfair rules, acts, and laws, and that they demanded to become independent.
  • Battle of Trenton

    Battle of Trenton
    The Battle of Trenton was a surprise attack led by general George Washington in order to ambush the Hessians, a german group that fought for the British, stationed in Trenton. Washington and his army traveled from New York and crossed the Delaware river to Trenton, New Jersey where he arrived early in the morning and defeated the Hessians, resulting in the capture of some of the soldiers. The victory of the battle prevented America from losing the war entirely.

    The Battle of Saratoga was one of the patriots greatest war battle achievement. the battle was fought in New York and a great amount of English soldiers perished. The Battle was a major turning point in the American Revolution.

    Valley Forge was home for General George Washington and his men for a year. The conditions were fierce and unbearable to the soldiers. The weather was a cold harsh winter wonderland of sorts. many soldiers perished due to the climate or the spread of smallpox.

    Battle of Cowpens
    The Battle of Cowpens was a battle fought in south carolina. led by Daniel Morgan was a turning point in the revolutionary war. He introduced a new tactic which involved two groups of soldiers. one group attacked the front and the other the back. they ended up fooling the british into thinking they retreated and as they got closer america fired winning the battle, In return this helped the colonists reclaim the south.

    Battle of Yorktown

    The Battle of Yorktown was the last official land battle. Lead by General George Washington, him and his men succeeded in the surrender of the british forces. Along with George Washington the French Navy played a big part in helping with cornwallis's surrender.

(or the declaration of independence) This document ended the revolutionary war and was england's response recognizing that america was independent. this also gave them land west of the Mississippi river, and from the south of canada to the north of florida.
