  • War Powers Act

    Power issued by Congress to restrict the President's power in sending troops into the battle.
  • Dien Bien Phu

    In 1954, the North Vietnamese attack the French to drive them out, ultimately resulting in the start of a war.
  • Geneva Conference

    This conference basically resulted in dividing Vietnam into two sections; North & South Vietnam.
  • Gulf of Tonkin Resolution

    During this era, LBJ was motioned by Congress to make a move against Vietnam. In effort to do so, LBJ was also given a "Blank Check" in which it was used to support the expenses for the potential war.
  • Operation Rolling Thunder

    5,000 American troops were sent to Vietnam to participate in an air-bombing. The air-bombing took place for nearly 3 years. LBJ made the decision.
  • Tet Offensive

    This event was described as an surprise attack against Vietnam on New Year's Day.
  • My Lai Massacre

    This event killed over 500 Vietnamese, all from women, elderly, and children.
  • Gulf of Tonkin Incident

    During this incident, three North Vietnamese torpedo boats attacked the U.S. at Maddox. The surprise attack caused a war at sea, which ultimately resulted in one U.S.S. boat being damaged, all three boats from N.V. being damaged, and 4 N.V. sailors being killed.
  • Kent State University Massacre

    A protest turned into a violent altercation, which resulted in an Army ROTC building being bombed. In addition, the police shot two student protesters, and two innocent bystanders.
  • Pentagon Papers

    This case was all about information being leaked out to the public/media concerning Vietnam. However, because the information was true, there were no penalties against the media gatherers.
