The first real video game console I can remember playing was the beloved Nintendo 64. I remember if the game was glitching out or wasn't loading properly you would have to take the game cartridge and blow out the dust that may have gathered. That always seemed to work. I remember playing a lot of Mario Kart and The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask.

I didn't play as much with the GameBoy but I did play a Pokemon game that for a small period of time I was obsessed with. I remember that you could trade Pokemon with someone else but you had to connect wires from one GameBoy to the other in order to do so. Gaming has changed so much!

My siblings and I played countless hours on the Xbox. I remember having to sit relatively close to the screen because the controller cords weren't long enough to reach all the way to the couches. We played games such as Halo and Fusion Frenzy way past our bed times!

This was the gaming console that I played the most with as a small child leading up to my early teenage years. We played all sorts of games together. This is still the only console that has the BEST Mario Kart (Mario Kart Double Dash) and I still play it on game nights. We also got our own controllers and mine was a bright orange. They brought back some of the OG Resident Evil and Legend of Zelda games that we were completely obsessed with

Now this changed gaming for me FOREVER! My sister, brother, and I were so excited because you could join games wirelessly. This mean that we could play games when we were supposed to be in bed sleeping. It also had this cool feature called PictoChat where you could draw pictures and send them to each other in a chat room. We were so excited and I remember playing countless hours on car rides and on vacations. I was obsessed. I sometimes still get on to feed my pets :)

This wasn't as big of a game changer as some of the other consoles on this timeline but what I do remember is that this allowed us to play some of the newer games that were being released and it probably worked better than the original Xbox. However, this was the first console that I played that you could have a wireless controller as a given. It was the only way to play with a controller. NO WIRES!

This wasn't a huge game changer other than the fact that it allowed other "apps" on the console. It also had better color, audio, and was significantly smaller. It also had a camera added so you could take and edit your own pictures. You could still play all the same games. I didn't actually end up getting one until about 2010 or 2012 when my original Nintendo DS started to break down.

Okay, this changed a few things for our family. First, this brought us a new Super Smash Bros where we could mindlessly beat each others characters. This entertained us for hours! It was cutting edge technology to have the ability to move your arm and have the game react. I remember this being a huge deal when it came out. With the release of the Wii also came the release of a new Legend of Zelda game called Twilight Princess. It is still considered one of the best of all time.

This was huge because this is when online gaming became a big deal for gaming consoles (not PC). This allowed players around the world to play with each other. I still game with friends and family weekly to "hang out" even though we are all across the country.

This is actually the one that I play all my games on now. Pretty much it is just an updated version of the Xbox One.
