Brigham Young and first mormon pioneers arrive in what is now Salt Lake City.

Utah becomes a U.S. Territory

Sep 9, 1850

Utah is named a territory and is one for 46 years.

Continental Railroad

May 10, 1869

On this date, the two railroad companies met in Promontory Summit. It was celebrated by the nailing of the golden spikes.

Brigham Young Academy

Oct 16, 1875

Brigham Young Academy was established.

Edmunds-Tucker Act

Mar 3, 1887

The Edmunds-Tucker Act was passed, naming slavery and polygamy the 'twin relics of barbarism.'

First Manifesto

Sep 25, 1890

Wilford Woodruff issued the First Manifesto, making it known that mormons no longer practiced polygamy. This did not stop it all though.

Statehood at Last

Jan 4, 1896

Utah officially becomes the 45th state in the U.S.A.

Zion National Park

Jul 31, 1909

Zion National Park was established in Southern Utah.
