The Gold Standard Act was an Act of the United States Congress, signed by President William McKinley and effective on March 14, 1900, defining the United States dollar by gold weight and requiring the United States Treasury to redeem, on demand and in gold coin only, paper currency the Act specified. -
With the extremely low prices of Henry Ford's Model T, Ford had the largest corporation in the automotive industry, and he was able to mass produce cars for the entire United States with the use of the assembly line. -
The Elkins Act is a 1903 United States federal law that amended the Interstate Commerce Act of 1887. The Act authorized the Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC) to impose heavy fines on railroads that offered rebates, and upon the shippers that accepted these rebates. The railroad companies were not permitted to offer rebates. Railroad corporations, their officers, and their employees, were all made liable for discriminatory practices. -
The great battle began with the assassination of Franz Ferdinand. Franz Ferdinand was the Austro-Hungarian Empire's successor. On June 28th, he decided to go to Sarajevo to check on some troops, but he was murdered by a Serbian terrorist gang called the Black Hand, which consisted of seven people. -
The conflict of Ypres was a key battle in World War I. It took place in Ypres, a small town in Western Belgium. Both the German and western allied armies attempted to take control of this town. -

Between 10,000 and 15,000 African Americans march down Fifth Avenue in perfect silence to protest violence against black people. Nearly 6,000 African Americans were kicked out from their homes, and at least 40 were killed: men, women, and children were beaten, stabbed, hung, and burned. This increased African Americans' urge to fight even more. -
Between 1890 and 1920, almost two million African Americans moved from rural southern states to northern cities in seeking better prospects and fewer discrimination. -
The term "Iron Curtain" refers to the border that separated Warsaw Pact countries from NATO countries from around 1945 until the conclusion of the Cold War in 1991. The Iron Curtain was a physical and ideas barrier that represented how Europe was perceived after WWII. Countries to the east of the Iron Curtain were related to or impacted by the former Soviet Union. Part of Germany was included in this. Czechoslovakia, Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, and Romania are all represented. -
The cold war was a struggle over the world's resources between the United States and the Soviet Union. South Vietnam was a US ally, while North Vietnam was a USSR ally. The United States believed that if North Vietnam won the conflict, other South Asian countries would fall to communism. -

U.S. special forces stormed a compound in Mogadishu, Somalia, in order to capture aides to warlord Mohammed Farah Aidid. Commanders intended the attack to be swift and precise, but the operation quickly fell apart. Gun violence was a major problem. School shootings became commonplace. When two students entered Colombian high School in Littleton, Colorado in April 1999 with weapons, they murdered thirteen people before taking their own lives.
