The Invasion of Normandy also known as D-Day was when around one hundred and fifty five thousands allied troops landed on the beaches of France. This invasion lead to the liberation of Paris and also was known as the one of the largest military operations in history. -

In 1945 Truman agreed bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Both these bombings cause around for 200,000 killed and lead to the surrendering of Japan. This was the only time a nuclear weapon was used in armed conflict. -

The Truman Doctrine was the declaration of Truman to give economic and military aid to foreign countries that were fighting Communist threats. Truman decided to do this because he thought it would help Greece and Turkey fight against the Soviet Union without them really getting involved. This was basically a tension where both were too scared to make a move because of both countries nuclear weaponry. The United States and the Soviet Union had the most amount of nuclear weapons that they believed was enough to end the world at the time. This war lasted until the dissolution of the Soviet Union. -

On August 28, 1963 Martin Luther King presented his "I Have a Dream" speech with around 200,000 people watching him. The speech was presented 100 years from the Emancipation Proclamation and was made for Civil Rights,in honor of Abraham Lincoln, and desegregation. -

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was a huge step forward for desegregation in America. The Civil Rights Act was a landmark civil rights law that made discrimination by color or race to be illegal. This meant African Americans would be able to go the the same school as the Caucasians and they would hired the same way as them. This later lead to the Voting Rights Act of 1965 -
Roe v. Wade
Roe v. Wade was a landmark Supreme Court decision that gave Women the right to have an Abortion. The government make this decision because they wanted to protect women's health and decide whether they wanted to keep going on with their pregnancy or not. This right was only for woman being able to abort if they were in the first trimester, if the pregnancy would get to the second and third trimester there would be a medical reasoning for it. -
Attack on Twin Towers
On September 11, 2001 a number of attacks were made on the Pentagon and the Twin Towers. The attacks were made with four hijacked airplanes that would suicide into the Pentagon and the World Trade center. These attacks killed around 3,000 people and 6,000 injured. A little time after the attack President George W. Bush decided to attack the Islamic terrorist. -
Killing of Osama Bin Laden
Osama Bin Landen was the man accused of causing the attacks on the Twin Towers and the Pentagon. He died in Operation Neptune Spear which carried out by U.S. Navy SEALs. The raid was on in Abbottabad in a compound where Osama was hiding in. The struggle to find him in the first place took many many years so this was a huge thing for the U.S. since he was the reason for the largest terrorist attack ever done to them.
