    British colonists founded the Jamestown settlement in Virginia on May 14, 1607. It was named after King James I of England. Jamestown was the first permanent English settlement and is where the whole British Empire all began.

    The American Revolution, could also be known as the American Revolutionary War or the US War of Independence. It was battle between the British troops and members of the miltia, and by the summer, rebels were in for a full scale war, and fought for their own independence. In 1778, France joined the war on side of the colonists, and what had been a civil was now become an international conflict. it was not until 1783 when the Americans effectively won their independence.

It was signed on September 17, 1787 by representatives of the constitutional convention in Philadelphia, chaired by George Washington. of The constitution was the supreme law, and it established rights for citizens, as well as laws to keep the country safe.

    In 1789, 69 members of the Congress cast their votes to elect George Washington as the first president of the United States. As he was chairman of the Constitutional Convention and former leader of the Continental Army, George possessed all needed values of presidency. After months of denial, he finally accepted the Congress’ decision on April 30, 1789 and soon became President along side John Adams who was elected Vice President.

    The Civil War broke out on April 12, 1861 and the four year war fought between 1861-1865 and were between the United States and the 11 southern states that seceded from the union. Slavery was the cause of the civil war. The northern and southern parts of the United States were separated and had their own government because of the issue of slavery. Both sides had a different definition of slavery The civil war could also be known as the War between the states. It ended on May 19, 1865

    Abraham Lincoln was assassinated on the evening of April 14, 1885. He was a politician, lawyer and the 16th President of the United States. He was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth, a famous actor and and Confederate sympathizer. He died at the Ford Theatre in Washington DC.

    On April 2, 1917, President Woodrow Wilson went to the Congress to declare war on Germany.His reasoning to declare war were because he tried to lure Mexico into an alliance against the US, as well as Germany’s violation of the US’ pledge to ban unrestricted submarine war in the Mediterranean and the North Atlantic. The US later declared war on the Germans alli Austria/Hungary on December 7, 1917.

    The Great Depression lasted from 1929-1939 and was the worst economic downfall in history. It started with a stock market crash in 1929, and wiped out millions of investors. It’s lowest point was in 1933, where over 15 millions Americans were unemployed and nearly have the banks in America failed.

    The September 11 attacks were a series of 4 terrorist attacks by an Islamic terrorist group called Al - Qaeda on the morning on September 11, 2001. Two planes were hijacked by the group and were flown into the twin towers, the third plane hit the Pentagon and the fourth landed in a field near Pennsylvania. Over 3,000 people were killed.
