  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    When Britain was colonizing America their expansion caused conflicts between the French and the Indians. The conflict is known as the French and Indian war, this conflict lasted for 7 years and resulted in a colonial victory. After the war the king of Britain enforced a proclamation that restricted the settlers from advancing past the Application Mountains.

  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    When the sugar and molasses act of 1733 was about to expire they came up with a new tax called the American Revenue Act of 1764. This act reduced the tax on molasses and added tax on certain goods like coffees, wines, printed calico, etc. They added the taxes on certain goods because they needed more money, but reduced the taxes on molasses because the colonies have been buying foreign molasses and Britain didn't like that. http://www.ushistory.org/declaration/related/sugaract.html

    The sons of liberty where a patriotic organization fully against British rule. It was founded by Boston patriot Samuel Adams, and the organizations where in Boston and New York. Some of the famous actions that they were involved in where the Boston tea party and many other revolts. But most importantly they have one of the most famous quotes in all of history "no taxation without representation".

  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    After the French & Indian war Britain wanted its money back so Britain started taxing the colonies to get money back. One of the many taxes was the stamp act which put taxes on all paper products. The Colonists weren't very happy and rebelled and eventually got the stamp act repealed.

  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    In 1765 parliament passed a law requiring all colonies to provide housing for British solders. To accommodate the British solders the colonies had to provide barracks, if the barracks weren't big enough the people had to house them in non public spaces. Eventually the British solders took advantage of this and started taking over homes, this caused conflict which eventually helped to spark the Boston massacre.

    Declaratory Act
    After Britain repealed a bunch of laws related to taxes they had enough. Britain enforced the declaratory act which made it so they had stronger legislative power.   • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    Britain is still in need of money from the colonies and they have already attempted to tax them. Since the colonies were forced to repeal the other acts because they taxed important things like paper and sugar Britain needed to tax new things. In the Townsend act they started taxing things like glass and other common used items. Soon after they imposed this tax the people in the colonies, they revolted again and had it repealed

  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    Britain sent troops to the colonies to help enforce the townshend act. This caused lots of tension between the colonists and solders eventually leading to the Boston Massacre. During the massacre 5 colonists were killed by British solders which sparked uproar everywhere, this event also was a big factor which lead to the American Revolution.

  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    Britain was still in debt so they imposed taxes on the colonies but ended up repealing all of them because of protests, tea was the exception. Britain kept tea taxed because it was their biggest export, and they had thousands of pounds of it rotting in its warehouses from the British East India Company. Britain also forced colonists to only buy tea from there merchants, they refused to buy it, this eventually led to the Boston Tea Party.

    The committees of Correspondence was a group that rallied against British rule. They used this organization to plan protests and communicate between patriotic leaders. The committees also very influential because they rallied the 13 colonies together and opposed British rule, they were also very effective too because they got multiple acts repealed.

  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    Since Britain started taxing tea, people thought that it was out outrageous, so the colonists protested. There protest is now known as one of the most famous protests in history, the Boston tea party. Late at night a couple of rebellious colonists hopped on board British ships and dumped all the tea overboard to protest the king. It worked and the Boston port was shut down for trading and even passed the intolerable act.

    After the Boston tea party parliament had enough and started to try regaining authority over the colonies. They achieved this through putting the Massachusetts Government act into effect, and by targeting Boston since that's where most of the rebellious actions have been occurring.Since the British have been in a battle with controlling the colonists they are now passing very serious laws against the colonies.
