  • Jamestown, Virginia

    The first successful British colony had been set up in 1607
  • Plymouth, Massachusetts

    In order to escape religious persecution and be free in what they practice, Puritans from Great Britain escaped and made their way to America in 1620.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Colonists angry at the tax Britain had put on their tea, decided to retaliate. They disguised themselves as Indians and began to chunk crates full of tea into the ocean.
  • Revolutionary War Begins

    At Lexington, British soldiers confronted a colonial militia and thus a war began and "The shot heard 'round the world" was born.
  • Declaration of Independence

    The Continental Congress signed and adopted the Declaration of Independence to obtain freedom from Britain.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Turning point of the Revolutionary War, as the war started off bad for the colonists. They were secretly receiving aid from France, but were hesitant to open ally them, until this battle had been won by the colonists. Leading to a now successful war for them.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    With the British surrounded by the colonists on land and the French in the sea, they were forced to surrender and thus America had beaten Great Britain.
  • Treaty of Paris

    With the war coming to an end, leaders of the new country America, Britain, and France all met in Paris to recognized the independence of our country into the world, putting the war to an official end.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    President Jefferson purchased the Louisiana Territory for a low price of $15 million. The territory almost doubled the size of America and gave us over 2 million square kilometers in land.
  • Secession

    After President Lincoln was elected President, 11 states followed that by seceding from the union, leading to the Civil War
  • Lincoln's Assassination

    John Wilkes Booth killed our 16th president and left our hurting country without a qualified leader to unify once again a broken country.
  • Declaring War

    In amidst of WWI, America was strictly neutral in the war. But, when Germany began taking action against our ships that were to Allied ports, Congress decided to declare war against Germany and so we joined the Allied powers.
  • Great Depression

    Banks and businesses failing across the country. Wages decreasing. People being laid off left and right. Times were bad and they were only getting worse.
  • Pearl Harbor

    After being neutral yet again at the start of another world war. America was seemingly just trying to not stir anything up and be involved. However, with Japan bombing Pearl Harbor, it was forcing our hand to take part in this war.
  • Atomic Bombing

    President Truman, with the development of nuclear bombs decided to put an end to this war by first threatening the use of atomic bombs, but then followed up with not one but two bombs into Japan, putting an end to WWII.
