  • Spanish-American War

    Spanish-American War
    The Cuban revolt brought many simpathies from Americans and the pulled the imperialists to fight. Tenisons were high between Spain and the US. The US blamed Spain for the sinking of the USS Maine and declaired war. The US freed Cuba and bought the Phillipeans from Spain.
  • Open Door Policy

    Open Door Policy
    Americans wanted unlimited access to East Asian markets which were being taken up fast. US Secratary of State John Hay sent the world powers a note that claimed equal trade access for all nations seeking to do business in China. This didn't really work as Japan had great influence.
  • Roosevelt Corollary

    Roosevelt Corollary
    The Roosevelt Corollary was the changing of the Monroe Doctrine to allow American military involvement in the Americas. No other country agreed to it, but America was showing its great power and used the Doctrine to support actions in the Western World.

    The "War to end all wars" was due to alliances in Europe and power hungry countries. America was neutral at the beginning and benifited economically.
  • Treaty of Versaille

    Treaty of Versaille
    The treaty to end WWI that blamed Germany for the war and forced them to to follow strict military restrictions and pay great reparations for damage to France and England. Italy didn't recieve any of the rewards they were promised which caused tension. These were causes of WWII.
  • National Origins Act

    National Origins Act
    Many nativists were upset with jobs going to immigrants and the amount of immigration occuring.The National Origins Act appealed to the nativists because it limited the number of immigrants allowed into the US on a backdated census. Only 2% of that nationality's percentage of the US population as it stood in 1890 were allowed into the US.
  • Dollar Diplomacy

    Dollar Diplomacy
    This term was coined in 1924 by Samuel Guy Inman. It was a policy emphasizing the connection between America's economic and political interests overseas. Business would gain from diplomatic efforts in its behalf while the strengthened American economic presence overseas would give added leverage to American diplomacy.

    Many European countries had just gotten out of a recession when the stock market crashed. Banks began to close and jobs were lost. FDR's New Deal policies were his attampts to end the depression, but what really brought the country out of the depression was WWII.

    Adolf Hitler was apointed Chansellor of Germany and he immediatly called a state of economic crisis and named himself dictator, He promply outlawed other political parties and imprisoned many of his political rivals. The rise of the Nazi's was terrifying and their goal was world domination.

    The rise of Hitler and Nazi party were due to the unfair Treaty of Versaille. The war was Germany gaining territory and the Allied Powers trying to slow them down. The bombing of Pearl Harbor brought the US into the war and was a main reason that the war ending with the Allies on top.
  • Bombing of Pearl Harbor

    Bombing of Pearl Harbor
    America didn't support Japanese infiltration in China and wouldn't trade with Japan. In retaliation to American involvment in WWII Japanese bombers surprise attacked Peal Harbor. Many American lives were lost. This attack brought America into WWII.
  • Manhattan Project

    Manhattan Project
    Offically started in 1942 the Manhattan Project was a plan to drop nuclear bombs on both Hiroshima and Nagasaki to end WWII and prevent the deaths of thousands of Americans.
