    The enlightenment ideas and philosophy inspired many american political thinkers. Religion was still being strengthened by Americans saying they are blessed with liberty.
  • British v. France

    British v. France
    There was a colonial rivalry that intensified between the British and French in the mid-18th century. British colonies expanded into North America and threatened French and Indian trade.
  • American Independence

    American Independence
    American Independence was energized by colonial leaders such as Ben Franklin. There were also movements for independence, including women, artisans, and political activist.
  • Article of Confederation

    Article of Confederation
    These articles unified the newly independent states. It also created a central government with limited power.
  • North v. South

    North v. South
    There was expansion of slavery in the deep part of the South. In the Western lands there was a rise of antislavery sentiment that began to create distinctive regional attitudes toward the institution.
  • Federalist v. Anti-federalist

    Anti-federalist debated against Federalist over ratifying the Constitution. Federalist ensured the ratification of the constitution by promising the addition of Bill of Rights.
  • Creation of Political Parties

    Creation of Political Parties
    Political leaders took a variety of positions on issues such as economic policies, balance between liberty and order, and foreign policies. The issues led to the creation of different political parties, the federalist and the democratic-republican party.
