  • 5000 BCE

    Corn Development

    In highland Mexico corn was planted and soon became their staff of life. Corn then spread to the Americas from Mexico.
  • Sep 1, 1521

    Population Decline

    Small pox was spread throughout Mexico which cause the population to drop. The native population shrank from about 20 million to 2 million. Destroying cultures, languages and ways of life.
  • Pocahontas' Marriage

    Pocahontas married colonist John Rolfe to seal the peace settlement of the First Anglo-Powhatan War. The marriage was the first known interracial marriage in Virginia.
  • Barbados Slave Code

    The slave code denied lots of fundamental rights to slaves. Their masters were granted absolute control over slaves including vicious punishments for slight infractions.
  • Colonial Colleges

    Nine colleges were established in the colonial era for convenience and economic purposes. Student numbers were small, about two hundred boys.
  • The Great Awakening

    Jonathan Edwards proclaimed the belief in salvation through good. He also proclaimed the dependence on God. He painted a landscape of hell. He believed hell was for unbaptized children.
