Tyler (age 6) asked cousin Claire (age 8) if she wanted to go play with him. She yelled at Tyler stating, "Why would I want to play with someone as little as you!" After this Tyler did not want to play with anyone for several years unless he was asked to play.
Erikson's third stage: initiative vs guilt
The crisis is Tyler was learning to become initiative however Claire treated him rudely making him experience guilt in return he never asked to play with others for years. -

Tyler (age 10) had difficult time reading causing him to be unsuccessful in school. When diagnosed with convergence insufficiency, tools were given to help Tyler read making him enjoy it.
Erikson's fourth stage: industry vs inferiority
The crisis was that Tyler was beginning to show inferiority due to being unsuccessful. Once Tyler was given tools with encouragement, he developed the joy of reading becoming successful in elementary school. -

Tyler (age 22) proposed to Alyssa making the decision that he wanted to be in a committed in a forever relationship.
Erikson's sixth stage: intimacy vs isolation
In this crisis Tyler is taking a step of committing to an intimate relationship even though throughout childhood he was always isolated with being home schooled and not having many friends. Thus taking a new step on a path created earlier to try something new.
