Railway became the most popular form of transportation ti was economical, reliable, and fast. Four times as fast as a streamboat. -
The Benefits
Railroads encouraged settlement and expansion of farming. Eastern seaports, along with other intermediate centers like Cincinnati, benefited from an increase in exportable goods.
