The ice starts breaking so Shackleton starts launching the lifeboats. They reach Elephant Island in 7 days.

Shackleton and 5 other men launch the James Caird lifeboat. Against all odds, after 17 days at sea, they reach South Georgia.

Shackleton, Worsley, and Crean cross difficult mountain ranges and reach a whaling settlement, months after leaving the island.

Shackleton, abord the Chileon SS Yelcho, rescues the rest of the crew. All 28 men are safe and return home as heroes.
