  • Scott vs Sansford

    Scott vs Sansford
    Dred Scott unsuccesfully sued the supreme court for his freedom arguing that since the man who owned him had died that he was free. The supreme court ruled in favor of Sanford saying that since Scott was a former slave they wouldnt hear his case because slaves couldnt voter
  • Reconstruction & Ammendments

    The period of time between 1865 to 1877 when the north attempted to help rebuild the south which was reconstructing itself after the civil war destroyed lots of cities and towns and farmland
  • Jim Crow era

    laws that enforced racial segregation and made it hard for blacks to do much and be free like whites were. It started right after reconstruction ended and lasted almost 100 years up until the civil rights movement of the 60s
  • seperate but equal

    the term known as seperate but equal was created. It forced public facilities to make everything equal but they didnt have to have the same qaulity teachers, staff, etc...
  • 19th ammendment

    Women were given the right to vote and the supreme court said that they could vote based on whatever sex. Some states had already allowed or talked about allowing women to vote in the 1910s
  • Scottsboro boys

    9 black teenagers aged 9-13 were accused and tried for raping two white women in scottsboro alabama. Some of the boys spent decades in prison before they were proven innocent. The only reason they went to jail was because of the racist all white jury that did not give them a chance to defend themseleves but instead went by the story of the sheriff
