    Was a trade system in which sugar, tobacco, and cotton went to Europe, textiles, rum and manufactured good to Africa, and slaves went to America. This contributed to the growing economy all around the world.

    The Puritans were a group o English reformed Protestants who sought to "purify" the Church of England from Roman Catholic practices. The Puritans were founded by John Calvin shortly after Elizabeth I stepped down from the throne in 1558.

    Workers that were seeking a new start in America signed a Indenture agreement which meant they had a free ride to America, shelter, food, water and clothing until they worked off their debt, which usually lasted about 5-7 years, and then they would receive free land. They arrived in America in the decade following the settlement of Jamestown in 1607.

    It was the first written constitution in the world to declare the modern idea of "the foundation of authority is the free consent of the people". It was written by Roger Ludlow, who wrote a lot about the compact frame of government that put the welfare of the community above that of individuals.

    Was a series of laws in response to the Boston Tea Party. The purpose the acts was to reverse the trend of colonial resistance to British authority
  • 1st Continental Congress

    Was composed of delegates from the colonies, who met in reaction to the coercive acts. The goal of congress was to compose a statement of colonial rights, to identify British parliaments violations of these rights, and to provide, a plan that would convince Britain to restore those rights.

    Written by Thomas Jefferson to declare independence from Great Britain. It explained to the world why they were fighting for independence. It included a long list of abuses of power by the King.
