    The Holocaust PRT1

    During the Great Depression, Adolf Hitler was elected as the new chancellor of Germany. Many people were having a hard time because of the Great Depression, so Hitler and his Nazi party took advantage of that. They convinced the people that they would change the country and make Germany great again. Hitler and his Nazi group convinced the people of Germany that the Jews were the cause for their inconveniences.

    The Holocaust PRT2

    On March 22, 1933, concentration camps were built in a town called Dachau. At first, most prisoners were just communists, but as time went by, most of the prisoners came to be Jews. Some prisoners were prisoners of war, Roma (Gypsies), people with disabilities, Slavic people, and homosexuals. Thousands of prisoners were sent to labor. Many were also sent to killing centers and exterminated. After Germany's loss, the holocaust ended. About 2/3 of 3 million Jews and thousands of others died.
  • Beginning of WWII

    On September 1st, 1939, the new chancellor of Germany, Adolf Hitler, commenced an invasion on Poland. Hitler wanted to take back lost territories. He successfully defeated the Poles and took over Poland. The invasion of Poland marked the beginning of WWII.
  • Declaring War

    Two days after Germany invaded Poland, an ultimatum was given to Germany by both Britain and France. However, Hitler did not give out a response. Both countries declared war on Germany. The U.S stayed neutral and did not join WWII (until later), but was willing to help by giving out supplies to weaker countries who were up against Germany.

    The Battle of France

    The Germans defeated the Allies and took over France. France seceded WWII after the defeat.

    The Battle of Britain

    After France seceded from WWII on June 17, 1940, Britain was left alone to fight the Germans. The German and Britain air forces attacked each other above the United Kingdom. The German air force lost to the British air force due to their big losses in the west and unpreparedness. The Battle of Britain was a turning point for Britain after the many damages that the German air force did to their air bases, military posts, and civilians.
  • Pearl Harbor

    At 8 on a Sunday morning, Japan commenced a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor of Hawaii, killing 2,008 navy personnel, 218 army service members,109 marines, and 68 civilians. The surprise attack on Pearl Harbor prompted Roosevelt's decision to enter WWII.

    The Battle of Stalingrad

    The Battle of Stalingrad was a big turning point for the Allies. The Luftwaffe (German aerial warfare branch) took control of the skies above Stalingrad and the Russians had many losses. But the Russians didn't give up and surrounded Stalingrad, trapping the Germans. The harsh winter that the Germans weren't used to allowed the Russians to have an advantage and take back Stalingrad.

    The Battle of Midway

    The Battle of Midway was a turning point that allowed the Allies to take on an offensive position. Six months after the Pearl Harbor attack, Japan decided to attack the remaining aircraft carries from Pearl Harbor to attract American fleets. But the U.S. was able to decode the Japanese fleet codes and figure out what they were planning. They counterattacked the Japanese by surprise.

    The Battle of Kursk

    Hitler began an operation called Operation Citadel after losing to the Soviet Red Army at the Battle of Stalingrad. Operation Citadel was an offensive operation against the Soviet forces located in the Kursk Salient. Hitler postponed the battle for a while, and that allowed Russia to improve their defenses. Hitler strategized to use the blitzkrieg, but they were unable to successfully cut through Russia's defenses. The Germans were pushed back and Russia won the battle.

    The Battle of Normandy

    The largest amphibious military operation; D-Day was an operation to invade northern France and take back the controlled, northern parts of France from the Germans. 18,000 British and American parachutists were already dispatched on land. 13,000 aircraft were prepared for protection. The Allies misguided the Germans with electronic and visual miscommunication. The Allies successfully invaded northern France and took it back while the Germans retreated.

    The Battle of Berlin

    The Soviets attacked outside of Berlin. They broke through the defenses laid outside of Berlin and advanced into the city. The Germans were outnumbered in soldiers and armament. The Soviets began surrounding the city and Hitler soon realized that he was going to lose the war. Hitler committed suicide and the rest of the Germans surrendered on May 2nd of 1945. The Battle of Berlin was the end of WWII.

    Japan Surrenders

    Through August 6, 1945 and August 9, 1945, the U.S. crucially bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki causing thousands of deaths. Japan finally surrendered on August 15, 1945.
  • Ending of WWII

    After Japan signed the document for surrendering, WWII was officially over.
