The English language started with the Anglo Saxons when they invaded England. who spoke what we now call English language. Many words came from Anglo Saxons such as cow, house, bread and sword.

In 800 Vikings invaded England. Many words from England revert back to Vikings such as HUSBAND, LAW and ANGER.

In 1066 AD the Normans invaded England. They spoke an early version of French and left many words that we use to this day. Such as catch, wadge and reward.

In 1400 AD invasions stopped coming and the French language faded. The English spoken was called Middle English. Books became very popular in the Middle English and many famous books where published such as Canterbury Tales By Geoffrey Chaucer.

In 1525 a version of the Bible was published in English language.
The catholic church didn't like the idea so they made them else where and Catholics had to smuggle them into England -
In England poetry grew very popular and many poets became known. One of the most popular ones was William Shakespeare. He invented many new words in his plays and poems. 1564-1616

In the 16th century England when people started reading more books they discovered many new words and started using words from Latin and Greek. Many words were scientific words such as ambidextrous, anatomy and encyclopedia.

In 1476 the first printing press was invented by Thomas Caxton and revolutionised England.Books became very popular in England because of this invention.

To this day English language is still evolving and many new words are being invented. In the 21st century we have introduced a lot of 'slang' words. I wonder what the English language will be like in the future?
