Timeline of International Agreements & commitments for action

  • 1st World Climate Conference

    Up until this conference which was held in Geneva during Feb. 1979, the idea of Climate Change and it's effects weren't given due seriousness. This conference discussed about the foreseeable harm climate change would might affect human activity. It led to establish World Climate Programme (WCP).
  • 1st IPCC Report

    Scientists were researching and gathering evidence on Climate Change and its factors. On 1990, the first IPCC report confirmed that climate change was real and underlined the importance of climate change as a challenge with consequences to humanity
  • Kyoto Protocol

    This protocol was signed by 160 nations to call for the first legal binding commitment to reduce carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions to 5.2% below 1990 levels before 2012.
  • 5th IPCC Report

    Out of the 5 IPCC reports to have been released in the past, the 5th report was the one which emphasized most on the realities of Global Warming and outlines how us as humans are the cause of this. It stated that the burning of fossil fuels and increasing CD levels in the atmosphere which are all executed by human activities.
  • Paris Climate Agreement

    The Paris Climate Agreement was adopted by 196 parties on Dec. 2015, which was later put to place on Nov. 2016. It had an overall similar plan to the Kyoto Protocol, but was a replacement as the Kyoto Protocol had failed due to various weaknesses. it's aims were to reduce global emissions ethically and also work 'together' to do so as everyone had to work from their own ways to make the agreements come to place as this didn't previously work with the Kyoto Protocol.
  • One Planet Summit

    Although the Paris Climate Agreement had come to place 2 years before this, the One Summit was one to bring together leader from countries, organizations and local or regional leaders as well to discuss on making effective steps towards a low carbon future. This summit was to put in place financial commitments.
  • Climate Action Summit of UNSG

    This summit is taken place to embark the 5 year anniversary of the Paris Climate Agreement. This summit yet again was to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and boost ambition as this was taken place, a year before the countries enhance their pledges with the agreements made.
