April 18th of 1906 An earthquake occurred in San Francisco, California, magnitude 7.9, killing 3,000. 80% of the city of San Francisco was destroyed.
Four months later, on August 16th of 1906, an earthquake occurred in Valparaiso, Chile, with a magnitude of 8.2. It was felt from Tacna to Puerto Montt also including its capital, Santiago. It killed 3,882 and 20,000 was left injured. -
On July 28th Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia. This war came after the death of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria. The war was a big part of the 1910s ending in 1918. Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria, and the Ottoman Empire, who were considered Central power, teamed up to fight against the Allied powers, Great Britain, France, Russia, Italy, Romania, Japan, and the United States. -

The company is known for its film studio which includes a lot of well-known films and operations. Operation Barbarossa was the code name for the invasion of the Soviet Union. This occurred during World War II. Later led to Operation Reinhard which was the main phase of the Holocaust, the genocide of European Jews during World War II 1941-1945. During this time period, about 6 million European Jews were murdered and at least 5 million prisoners of war. -

In 1973 the first space station, Skylab, was launched. It was the first United States space station by NASA. It was occupied for about 24 weeks between May 1973 - February 1974. It later disintegrated into the atmosphere on July 11th, 1979, and sent debris down to earth into the Indian Ocean and Western Australia. -
In April, a San Francisco resident and supposed gay sex worker, Ken Horne, was diagnosed with Kaposi's sarcoma. It was later discovered that that was not the proper diagnosis as he was discovered to be the first AIDs case for the United States epidemic that later took flight on June 5, 1981. -
On August 31, 1997, the entire world is affected by the death of Princess Diana. Diana died from her injuries that occurred in a car accident in Paris France. Medias allegedly claimed the accident occurred because of paparazzi following the car and contributed to the crash. Later on, it was announced that Henri Paul the driver was at full fault for the accident being that he was under the influence of alcohol and prescription drugs. Her funeral was watched worldwide by 2.5 billion people. -
The year 2000 problem also known as, Y2K, was a problem with computer programmers. They worried that after 1999 the computers would put the year as 1900 because they didn't believe it would be programmed to 2000. It caused a lot of anxiety all through the world. Computer programs were first written in the 1960s. Instead of writing years as the 1960s on computers, they used a two-digit code for the year, writing it as "60" without the "19". They thought it wouldn't interpret the 00 correctly.
