  • Plankalkul

    Plankalkul was created by Konrad Zuse from 1945-1945. It allowed computers to carry out functions and repeated actions. Plankalkul means “Plan Calculus” in German.
  • Fortran

    Fortran was created by John Backus in 1955. It was used for numerical and scientific data recordings. Fortran got its name from FORmula TRANslation.
  • Lisp

    Lisp was created in 1958 by John McCarty. It was used to manipulate data and to develop artificial intelligence. LISP stands for list processing.
  • FLOW-MATIC

    FLOW-MATIC was made in 1958 by Grace Hopper. It was used for business purposes, for calculating paychecks and automatic billing.
  • COBOL

    COBOL was made in April 1959 by Grace Hopper. It was used to develop businesses and other business applications. COBOL stands for Common Business Oriented Language.
  • RPG

    RPG was made in 1959 by IBM. It was used in business applications
    RPG stands for Report Program Generator.
  • BASIC

    BASIC was made in 1964 by John G. Kemeny andThomas E. Kurtz. It was used for education purposes and to create computer programs. BASIC stands for Beginner's All-purpose Symbolic Instruction Code. This was a name for an unfinished paper of Thomas Kurtz
  • LOGO

    LOGO was made in 1967 by Wally Feurzeig, Seymour Papert and Cynthia Solomon. It was used to produce computer graphic and other interactive computer programs. “Logo” was derived from the Greek word “logos”, which means “thought”.
  • B

    B was made in 1969 by Ken Thompson. It was used to develop computer systems and programs. “B” is derived from BCPL or “Basic Combined Programming Language”
  • PASCAL

    PASCAL was made in 1970 by Niklaus Wirth. It was made to make other computer programs and for educational purposes. PASCAL was named after the French physicist Blaise Pascal.
  • C

    C was made in 1972 by Dennis Ritchie. It was used to create operating systems and for education.
  • ML

    ML was made in 1973 by Robin Milner. It was used to find matching function for algorithm and for programming research. ML stands for Meta Language.
  • SQL

    SQL was made in 1978 by Donald D. Chamberlin and Raymond F. Boyce. It is use to create create business modules. SQL stands for Structured Query language.
  • C++

    C++ was made in 1979 by Bjarne Stroustrup. It is used to create computer softwares, online games, and other applications.
    C++ is based on the C language, and the ++ means "adding one to the program of C."
  • ADA

    ADA was made in February 1980 by Dr. Jean Ichbiah. It was used by the US Department of Defense for programming. Ada was named after Augusta Ada King, countess of Lovelace, who helped Charles Babbage create the first computer program.
  • Python

    Python was made in 1991 by Guido van Rossum. It is used to create web applications, game development, e-commerce, education. Rossum named Python after Monty Python, a British comedy series.
  • Delphi

    Delphi was made in 1995 by Embarcadero Technologies. It was used to create objects and images on the computer.
  • Java

    Java was made in 1995 James Gosling. It is used in phone applications and create web applications. Java was named after a coffee brand, Java coffee.
  • Javascript

    Javascript was made in 1995 by Brendan Eich. It is used to create websites and make them more user friendly. Javascript was originally called Livescript, before it incorporated parts of Java.
  • PHP

    PHP was made in 1995 by Rasmus Lerdorf. It was used to create login pages, websites, photo galleries. PHP stands for Personal Home Page.
