Timeline 1763-1774

  • Proclamation of 1763

    This reserved all of the territories between Florida, Mississippi, Allegheny Mountains, and Quebec for the Native Americans to use. This prevented any form of expansion west by the 13 colonies. The people felt like this was a disregard of there fundamental rights.
  • Currency Act

    This act was passed to prevent any form of currency that is not what Great Britain uses to not be made or used. This also caused the economy to worsen a little because of the different currencies. The colonial response to this was that it was a sign of British Oppression.
  • Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act was when heavy taxes were placed on sugar which also led to smuggling of sugar to evade this tax placed on it. The people also believed that this violated there fundamental rights as well due to the tax that was placed.
  • Stamp Act

    This act required all licenses, newspapers, pamphlets, broadsides, leases, and any other type of legal documents. The colonial response to this was protesting, property damage, and refusal to pay the tax.
  • Quartering Act 1765

    This act was for the people of the 13 colonies to allow any royal troop to enter their household and the people must provided them food and anything they require. The people believed that this was a violation of there rights due to soldiers just entering their houses whenever they want.
  • Declaratory Act

    This act gave parliament to make any law binding the colonies which meant that the colonist won a temporary issue from a crisis. The people described it as the British acting tyrannical.
  • Townshend Act

    This act was made to raise revenue which would support colonial officials and maintain the British Army in America. The people response to this was heavy resistance and widespread anger.
  • Boston Massacre

    This event started out being harmless which was the citizens throwing snowballs at the British Soldiers then all of a sudden the soldiers started firing into the crowd which resulted in injuries and deaths of some people. This act made by the British soldiers led to further want for their independence.
  • Boston Tea Party

    In this event citizens in Britain decided to dress up as Mohawk Indians and get onto a British ship containing tons of tea. They then dumped all the tea on this ship into the Boston Harbor. The colonists responded with resistance and protests.
  • Quartering Act of 1774

    This act required some local authorities to provide suitable quarters for the troops which can include private homes if it is necessary. The colonial response to this was enragement and them naming this as the Intolerable Acts.
  • Quebec Act

    This extended the boundaries of Quebec south of the Ohio River and this also became known as the Five Intolerable Acts. The colonial response to this was hostility and widespread anger.
  • Intolerable Acts

    These acts were created to punish Massachusetts for the Boston Tea Party. These 4 acts were Massachusetts government act, quartering act, Boston port act, and administration of justice act.
