    This vertical structure was used by the egyptians to tell time. It was a structure with 4 sides as a shadow clock, placing it in the sun would cast a shadow.

    The Babylonians started using a sundial. This flat circle on which a 12 hour face had been written. It had a gnomon which was a vertical marker in the center that would cast a shadow on the hour.
