    This year marked the birth of the pneumatic (using compressed air) tyre which was made by Michelin and would revolutionize the car industry.

    This marked the opening of Ford’s first motor company which would go on to sell over 1700 cars in its first year.
  • Ford Model T

    Ford Model T
    This year marked the release of Henry Fords first car, Ford Model T. It was named the most influential car of the 20th century as it was recognised as the first affordable automobile.
  • The birth of rear and front brakes

    The birth of rear and front brakes
    The Scottish made Argyll became the first four wheel car to be fitted with both front and rear brakes. The front were operated with the use of a pedal whilst the rear made use of a hand lever.

    This year marked the first automobile to clock a speed of 272kmph which was achieved in Wales by Parry Thomas.

    Galvin Manufacturing Co became the first company to offer car radios in commercial cars.

    Volkswagen Beetle
    Volkswagen commenced production of the popular Beetle in Germany. This model of car was made up until 2003.

    The first all Australian made car which was produced by Holden Motors.

    The seatbelt was introduced as standard equipment in all new motor vehicles.
  • Ferricco Lamborghini

    Ferricco Lamborghini
    Ferricco Lamborghini founded Lamborghini and it would go on to become one of the most well known car companies in the world.

    A new interest in electric cars saw the birth of the General Motors EV1 which was one of the first zero emission cars released on a large scale.

    The Ford Focus was introduced and would go on to become one of the greatest cars of all time due to style and affordability, it is still in production.

    Cars have continuously changed throughout the last 100 years, with each passing decade new technologies allow for further advancements in a technology which was only in its infancy a 100 years prior.
