  • Birth and Early years

    Thomas Kuhn was born July 18, 1922, in the town of Cincinnati Ohio to his parents Minette Stook Kuhn and Samuel L Kuhn. When he was old enough he was able to attend a school that promoted being able to think for himself and also independent thinking the school was in New York it was called Hessian Hill School.
    Later, on in his younger years he was also able to attend The Taft School in Watertown was also graduated from there in spring of 1940.
  • College and Degrees

    Kuhn graduated Harvard University multiple time, He got his BS 1943 and then went on and got his MD and PhD in the years to follow 1946-1949. He was an understudy of John Van Vleck. During these years of him at Harvard he chose to change this studies from Physics to History and Philosophy of Science.
  • His New Career

    After attending Harvard Kuhn started working at Radio Research Laboratory. Which was at Harvard University and the U.S Office of Scientific Research and also the Development in Europe. He was working with Radars.
  • New Career after New Career

    During his early Adulthood, Kuhn took on many different careers he went from while in school working on Radars to becoming an Instructor for Harvard for History of Science from 1948 to 1956.
  • Earth is Center of Universe

    In 1957 Kuhn made a dispute that the earth was at the Center of the Universe and that he wrote a book about it called The Copernican Revolution.
  • University of California

    Kuhn was appointed as Professor of History of Science at the University of California in 1961. Kuhn was also part of the Philosophy and History departments durning this time.
  • Structure of Scientific Revolution

    In 1962, Kuhn work with ‘The Structure of Scientific Revolutions’ was published, which was first published as part of the ‘Foundations of the Unity of Science’ series. In these works, he stated that competing paradigms are frequently incommensurable. He proposed the notion of ‘paradigm shifts’ and indicated that scientific fields undergo periodic shifts and do not progress in a linear and continuous pattern. - Editors, TheFamousPeople.com
  • Kuhn Major Works in Life

    ‘The Copernican Revolution’, published in 1957, analyses the 16th century Scientific Revolution and the Ptolemaic understanding of the solar system. This went on to become a best-seller. His 1962 book, ‘The Structure of Scientific Revolutions’, is regarded as one of the most influential and frequently cited academic books, in which he introduced the term, ‘ paradigm shift’.
  • Award after Award

    While Kuhn was at Harvard he has presented an award for elected to the esteemed ‘Society of Fellows’ at Harvard University. In 1954, he has conferred the prestigious title of ‘Guggenheim Fellow’.

  • His Personal life and his life after death.

    Kuhn Married his wife and soon had three beautiful kids. Eventually Kuhn and his first wife was divorced and then he soon married his second wife Jehan Barton Burns but a few years later in 1994 Kuhn was diagnosed with Lung cancer and that is how he lost his life was with that battle.

    In his honor ‘Thomas Kuhn Paradigm Shift Award’ is awarded by the American Chemical Society to people who offer original views contradictory to mainstream science.
